I think I already know the answer but I'll ask anyway. I have a reg SBR with 10.5 upper, I have a 14.5 coming. I can go longer just not shorter right?  I put barrel length as 10.5 on my paperwork. I just like the look of the 14.5

You have a SBR, you can go as short or as long as you want, as long as you keep the 10.5 upper that you registered in and can put it back to that configuration you do not need to notify the ATF unless you make a permenant change to the rifle.

SBR is an SBR is an SBR ... permanent changes in the description should be sent to the NFA branch so the registry can be updated .. but it is not required by law
