Ok I posted this on the Colt Forum as well but wanted to get some opinions from the Class III guys as well. This is the situation

Ok I am purchasing a Norveske 10.5 inch upper and trying decide if I should do the paper work and put it on my Colt 6721 or purchase a new lower and put it on that (and do the paper work). My only concern is having to engrave the Colt. What is your alls feeling on it

I plan on doing it all with a trust so engraving the lower and also possible hurting re-sale value but I do not think I will sell the Colt

What do you all think. Leave the Colt as is and purchase a new lower or engraving the colt is not a big deal. Money is always a concern but do not want it to bite me in the future.

Thanks for the help and the replies

SBR the colt, and engrave the barrel instead of the lower.

If you send the lower back to the manufacturer, the manufacturer can file a Form 2 and register the lower as an SBR.  Then you do the Form 4s and the lower is shipped back to you without any engraving.  The lower is your property so there is no need to go through a dealer.

Colt just had a corporate change just after the ban ended.  They are also not very CS oriented.  I don't know if DPMS would do it.  You can call and ask.  I have heard that CMMG will but I don't know at what cost.  For me personally if I wanted to do a SBR, I would do a MGI lower.  With all the caliber/magwell possibilities that is where I would put the $200 stamp.
