My Dept. is currently contemplating replacing our SRT sub guns(MP5-.40 cal) with an AR platform.  Some of the guys are knowledgeable, but not on everything.  The debate is a 11.5" gun Vs. a 14.5" gun.  We would like to get Bushy 14.5" M4's, for the price and availability.  Colt as most know isnt active right now with civys and LE.  I am not big fan of the 11.5", due to its increased muzzle blast(especially with alot of really close quarters training) and how finicky they can be without modification.  Are there any good articles that I can obtain comparing the 2,  or anyone first hand experience with them.

Why do you think the 11.5" barrel set-up is unreliable?  My S&W MP15A with a 11.5" CMMG barrel runs like a Rolex.  In fact, as I understand, the carbine gas system was designed to use an 11.5" barrel, ergo the Colt Commander.

a 11.5 gun will run just fine all day long if you buy it from a respectable manufacturer.

if you're worried about muzzle blast, silencers are great at containing that.

and, since you're starting with a 11.5, depending on the can you go with, it won't be much bigger than a 14.5/16" rifle.
