What must the overall length of a Shotgun be before it is considered and SBS? Does the length requirement depend on a buttstock or a pistol grip? Thanks! |

Any shoulder-fired Title I weapon must be 26" or longer in overall length from stock to muzzle (folding or collapsing stocks are measured with the stock in the shoulder-firing position) Once OAL length is below 26" then it becomes NFA regardless of barrel length. However, it's rare that a gun can even come close to this OAL threshold without using an NFA barrel. The only gun I've ever seen that has a non-NFA length barrel and a full stock and comes close to this threshold is the Neostead shotgun which is exactly 27" OAL and still mamages a 22" barrel. |
