Just wondering if anyone had seen any or knew of any reloading data for the 14.5x114? (yes I searched the archives, found nothing but barrel length arguments )Trying to help a friend out who is looking at getting a PTRD-41, but haven't been able to find any real place to start aside from working up from a 50bmg load. No idea if something like quickload would even help, as it's not exactly a common cartridge. Thanks for any help ahead of time! |
| According to the BATFE FAQ page, "Anti-tank guns(caliber over .50)" are Destructive Devices. It looks like every round may be considered a separate destructive device. That may explain why ammo and info are hard to find. IIRC JDJ had to (or chose to) get a BATFE letter for their 14.5 JDJ round. |

Essayons: My friend and the rifle are in Canada, where 50bmg is prohibited but 14.5x114 is a normal rifle as far as their licensing is concerned . Only problem is 14.5 ammo is rare and expensive, as well as few people buying the rifles for more than conversation pieces. The JDJ letter is to define the cartridge as being for a sporting purpose, like .600NE, .700NE or .950 JDJ, as opposed to 14.5x114 which was developed for military use and is still used around the world as primarily a non-sporting cartridge.ziarifleman: Thanks a bunch for helping out with this! I've been trying to get Quickload for ages, but every time I save up the money for it another wonderful something (usually old Mausers or SMLEs) shows up at the LGS to devour my wallet

The ammo itself IS NOT a DD unless it has more than 1/4oz of explosive in the projectile. ETA: I believe CVDS sells downloaded 14.5 ammo for shooting. |

First I've heard of them, and would like to know if they have or sell, or specialize in any other "neat stuff"?
