Gents I've been looking around for some 203 setups recently because I just found out I will be humping an M4/203 in Afghanistan. Oh yay me, NOT! Honestly I've never really cared to be the guys carrying the 203, but it is what it is. Anyways for anyone that has run one show me some pictures of you setup. What I am thinking now is that I will (try) replace the rail with a DD RIS II FSP, Vltor stock, MIAD grip (or tango down) , gunfighter ch, troy buis, and I'm gonna try and get by with a battlecomp. Yes I have fired a BC, and been right next to one indoors and it is not any worse than an A2. My command has already said I can change anything that doesn't involve the cycle of operations so I'm cleared hot.  Anyway, I'd just like to see how other warfighters set up thier weapon. Now let's see 'em.

99% of us on the forum don't own M203s. I think Google is your best bet for pictures.

What ever you do please do not just pry the QR bracket latch up and off.
There is a little release button you rotate and push in if you decide to take the 203 off.

Any idea why your rifle has a CAR stock installed? Was that your idea?

Mine for 15 Months, we had enough in the unit so that any one who wanted one could. It allowed me to mark targets and conduct H&I fires, and gave me a reassurance that I could reach out and touch someone with HE.

lol. i'm gonna seem like a SUPER] telling you this, but you aren't authorized any modifications to an issued weapon unless you have an MWO for it and it is an NSN item. as in ACOG, KAS rails, LMT sopmod buttstock.

you can't change out grips, rails, sights, nothing. and when u are checked during MOB if the 3rd shop is a good one they will remove all of the un-authorised gear.

It doesn't really matter if your command says "go ahead". the US army pubs , TM's and Sgt half-mast (hahaha) said no.

your biggest issue is keeping a clean weapon, not modding it. i have seen TOO MANY m4 lower extentions stripped, selector lever springs lost, and other stuff from E-4's modding their weapons.

good luck over there tho. It doesn't seem to be getting any friendlier

For the OP, mod your gun if you want, but you really don't need to. A good sling and possibly a CTR stock would be sufficient. (CTR for the rubber pad that will stick to your armor).

That's just how it was issued to me. A LOT of rifles out there still have CAR stocks, even some high speed SF rifles.

i keep forgetting I cannot communicate with the military mindset. no wonder I ETS'd.

"(1)If a modification, such as a conversion, remanufacture, System Enhancement Program, system improvement
programs, product improvement programs, or preplanned product improvements, changes the operational capabilities of
the weapon system and changes the Army model number or nomenclature, that item will, at a minimum, be identified
by a new national stock number (NSN). Changes in the operational characteristics require the establishment of a new
standard study number.

(4) Test and evaluation ais required for all modifications, upgrades, or installations of HTI equipment that change
the model/type designator and may or may not require a new type classification but affect operational effectiveness,
form, fit, or function; adversely affect safety; have supportability or survivability ramifications; or a new version of
software. The level of evaluation required will determine the necessary testing."

that means anything you use needs to be tested and approved before use. id doesn't mean "hey lets everyone grab magpul/vltor stuff and deck out the US Gov't weapons."

i obv am on the losing side here but I will digress with that clipping that "Powned me"

Uh well I'm not in the Army and for us its not an issue to mod our weapons as long as the CO gives us the ok. Shit, I know plenty of guys that have completely swapped uppers with no problem. It must have suck being in your unit. Anyways for someone like I, who trains outside the military and actually knows the benefits to ergonomic mods like the ones I mentioned they are minor mods. And not to be a Dick, but I didn't ask for anyone's thought on the should or shouldn't, I'm not a boot, and know how to run a gun. I've just never had to run a 203 (I do know how to operate one) tactically or had to set one up and I'm just looking to see how others have set them up.

My personal M203 I have at home.   This is one option.

I have one on my M4 clone but it's nothing fancy or different than what you see on google, SureFire on the 3 rail, PEQ15 at 12 and a SureFire dual rail switch on the 9.  Only thing I can say is how to carry the ammo, many get one of the tactical Taylor belt/bandoleer and wear it is either option.  I'm working with army route clearance and a few guys here have taken the belt and cut it into shorter sections then zip tied it to the outside webbing on their M4 mag pouches.  Or other areas of the webbing, makes everything one piece of gear and you don't have to deal with it moving around or extra step putting it on.

Sounds good, just remember its not your weapon and you'll have to reconfigure it when it gets turned in.

Please post pics of the setup when you get it.

i hate mine, im in an AO that is fairly quiet. its a bitch. but it is very comforting to know i can just blow shit up if i have to, bets mods are a good stock and a light if youre not issued one, oh and an ACOG, get your hands on an ACOG
