Anyone else have a USAS-12 that was grandfathered in as a DD and then chopped off the barrel since a DD can have any length barrel and trumps SBS status?

I am thinking of doing it but haven't decided how short to go.

Probably do it to my Striker-12 too. I mean, why not?

A lot of people have done this since there's no barrel length definition under "Destructive Device", however while it's a DD at the federal level, it's still a "shotgun" in many states.  Many of the Title I guns that were registered under the reclassification likely have legal impediments at the state level to having their barrels cut to below 18".

This is one reason why you don't see many DD Strikers or Street Sweepers being offered by C3 dealers with short barrels, it can complicate the sale.

There are SBS and AOW Strikers and Street Sweepers out there as well.  Only Title I versions were reclassified to DD.  Those models that were already in the NFA Registry at the time of the reclassification remain as as they were originally registered.

The USAS-12 being gas-operated cannot have it's barrel cut too much before function is effected.  How short is can go, I have no idea, but you should research what lengths the factory offered going back to Daewoo.

Functionally speaking, chopping a Streetsweeper or a Striker-12 is WAY different than chopping a USAS-12.  This is because the USAS is gas operated while the other two are essentially overgrown revolvers.

I strongly recommend looking into this before letting a saw anywhere near a USAS barrel.  I sold my last two for $450 and $575 respectively.  Doing this wrong will be a very expensive mistake–– assuming that you even can find a replacement barrel.  Mine sold VERY quickly after the first ad went out, and I always had a waiting list if the first lucky buyer fell through.  They NEVER did.

I wouldn't waste a good barrel.

If this is something that you or the OP really wants to do, I'd ask on Subguns or Sturm first.  This just strikes me as unsound unless you're also willing to modify (and potentially damage) the gas system.

The USAS-12 is a huge gun and and when I've seen them with shorter than factory length barrels, they look a little ridiculous.  You are certainly not gonna make that gun more wieldy with a short barrel...
