ive seen the flip up leaf sights and the side carryhandle mounted sights, what are the differences and which one is superior?

It used to be that the front flip-up was for expedient use with the front sight on the rifle. The carryhandle mounted sight was for aimed, long range, supported firing. I don't think they are used in this manner any longer.

The leaf sight is the main sight used now. When comfortable and trained with it it is very accurate. The quadrant sight (carry handle) was very prone to breaking and I was just as accurate with the leaf sight when I used it.

I personally liked the carry handle sight for accuracy, but it was a pain in the ass, and prone to damage.

An IR laser on a ranging base is the hot setup now. :-)

I have the quadrant sight (bolts onto the carry handle) for my AR-15, and use it when shooting dummy rifle grenades.  I only get 75m using parade blanks, and haven't gotten ahold of any proper grenade-launching blanks.

I'm really quite pleased with the accuracy of the quadrant sight, and it's a pretty fun piece of gear.

They're usually $100 or so on eBay, but I bought one from SAMCO early last year for around $35.  If they have any left, that's a pretty good buy.
