I have a bolt action 22 Win Mag and shoot mainly 30gr V-Max through it. I am a huge SilencerCo fan but, Rugged and others have come out with new cans that look enticing. I have lightweight 22lr cans so, while I don't want a brick on the end of my rifle, I also don't worry about it being nose heavy on a 22LR pistol either.
The ability to have two different lengths seems appealing but, I'm unsure if it really is a practical advantage or a feature I would use. Of course cleaning is a given so I'm assuming 'skirted' baffles since Sparrow owns the market with the clamshell halves around the baffle stack. Finally, price is a factor but not a significant one as long as the prices are within the mainstream marketplace. What would you recommend and why? What are the discriminators for suppressors in the marketplace now (not some rumor that will never see the light of day for years please!)? While I do not own a 17WSM or 5.7, I do own a 22 Hornet so a suppressor that is compatible with it has some, though not much, appeal to me. It would also be nice to have the capability to run 17WSM/5.7 though it but, that is not a requirement for a rifle I don't own today. TIA, Sid |

| I just got my stamp for my Mack Bros Vapor and tried it on a Ruger MKII with CCI SV and it's as quiet as my Regulator with no preceptable FRP and is shorter/lighter, it has a pleasant low tone. It's designated duty is on a Volquartsen .17 WSM and it performed great on that host (the Vapor is also 5.7 capable). It's not a mainstream can but is definitely a winner. |

| If you want a lightweight 22 WMR rated rimfire can, the Gemtech GM22 would fit the bill nicely. I have the Gemtech Outback 2 w/ IOU core (almost identical to GM22 core) and it sounds AWESOME on my 22 WMR bolt gun. My brother's Silencer Co Spectre 2 sounds great on it also but is considerably heavier (not terribly noticeable on a rifle, definitely is on a pistol). The Rugged Occulus, Dead Air Mask HD, Q El Camino (lighter weight), and AAC Halcyon all look excellent as well but I don't have any firsthand experience w/ them. |

I have a Ruger American in 22 WMR and I have shot it with both my Spectre II and my Mask. I have not shot them back to back, it was months apart, but I can't say I noticed any difference in sound. By that I mean they were both pleasant to shoot and hearing safe to me (and I have sensitive ears). Neither one feels heavy on a rifle. If I was going to buy another one I would get a second Mask just because it is shorter and looks a little better. Whenever my Omega clears I am going to try it back to back with the rimfire cans but I suspect it won't sound much better because all I really hear now is the supersonic crack.
ETA: I shot them back to back yesterday and I couldn't tell any difference between them in sound or accuracy, just different POI's. My kid was shooting my 22lr RAR right beside me. He was using whichever can I wasn't and shooting bulk pack supersonic ammo, and both guns sounded pretty similar. The WMR was just a tad louder but not much. |

The Halcyon is shipping to dealers as we speak, and is rated for 22 WMR and 5.7. The Halcyon also features an interchangeable thread insert system that would eliminate the M10 x 1 to 1/2-28 adapter you would need for your 5.7 in favor of an internalized adapter that will not come unscrewed and/or provide tolerance stackup between the silencer and your 5.7 barrel.

Indeed. The tabbed, tensioned, interchangeable thread inserts will probably be one of the least talked about, but most practically useful new features unveiled on the Halcyon. Mike Smith/AAC SilentMike |

| Does the 22mag or 17 HMR benefit any from larger volume 223cal suppressors vs rimfire suppressors? I run some 22mag and 17 HMR through the Spectre II/Mask it makes shooting both really a pleasure. I have a custom T/C contender 5.7 barrel being built right now I've flirted with the idea of buying a larger volume rimfire suppressor like then USS-22, Thompson CHD or stepping up to a smaller 223 model for my 17 HMR and 5.7 rifles. Gemtech even makes the SAR-57 5.7 can more volume and still on 5.5oz which might make a nice 22mag or 17 HMR model also. |
