Hello I'm looking to buy my first suppressor, I think I have narrowed it down but want some input, this will be going on my 22lr's.  Dead Air Mask, AAC Element 2, Silencerco Warlock and maybe the Gemtech GM-22.  This will be going on my Ruger 22/45, I may get a Buckmark as well and my 10/22.  I went to my local shop they had a D.A. Mask for me to handle, I was surprised by just how heavy it was.  So then I started looking for the lighter suppressors.  Being my first suppressor I obviously want the quietest and with no FRP, ease of maintenance and Im guessing the lighter the better on a pistol?  So are the suppressors Ive listed the top ones I need to choose from or are there any others Ive missed?  From my googling it looks like the D.A. Mask is the best except for the weight and the AAC Element 2 may be the best compromise of all the traits. Thanks

I'm waiting on a sparrow for my first 22cal can. I liked how it came apart for cleaning. I didn't think about the weight as it will mostly sit on a rifle.

The DA Mask has stainless steel baffles. The Warlock has aluminum baffles. Not sure about the GM 22 or ACC. My point is that stainless steel is MUCH easier to clean. I would go with something stainless. My go to cans are the Mask and Spectre II (SS version of the warlock). I have both AL and SS cans. I use the SS much  more since I can clean them in the dip or tumbler.
Also mono core cans typically will have much more FRP than cans with baffles. So if FRP is important, stay away from mono core. Personally FRP drives me crazy.
My Spectre and Mask had little to no FRP. I use both on a 22/45 as well as other hosts. No issue with wieght.
If your dealer has a Mask in stock, jump on it.

For reasons expressed above...

If that's your list, go Mask or Element.

Dealer is holding the Mask for a customer til he gets approved.  I asked the dealer if the weight of the Mask was really that noticeable on a pistol, expecting him to say not really or something to that effect but he said Oh yeah its very noticeable that's why I shoot a Sparrow!   But online the Sparrow looks to be the same weight as the Mask.  I dont know enough to make make an informed purchase based on that.  Thats when I noticed the specs on the Element 2 being on the lighter end of the spectrum.  From what Ive read It looks like the Mask has the most going for it but at the cost of weight, the Element2 has the best compromise of everything but AAC customer service problems has me worried.  If anyone has another company I need to look into based on the criteria let me know

A SilencerCo Spectre is hard to beat for what you want.  Yes, a stainless can is a little nose heavy but, I think it is a better first time can.  The aluminum body and baffle cans are nice but, are more restrictive in use and care.

I have two Masks and a TacSol Axiom. I really really like each brand in their own way. The TacSol Axiom OD matches the barrel shroud profile perfectly on the 22/45. The Mask has a slightly larger OD than the 22/45. Both perform more or less the same, with most ammo, low or no perceived FRP and are quiet cans. Rimfire cans are no picnic to clean in general, but I personally do not find the weight savings worth the price of admission on the element 2. Mask and Axiom are the some of the easier to clean. I never shot my masks or axiom and thought about the weight.

I use a TacSol Axiom on my 22/45 without any issues.  It comes apart easily and doesnt have a first round pop.  My Mask is going to out awhile so I can give you a direct comparison on sound.

aluminum baffled cans are great until you have to clean them...  I have only disassembled them, but I would go Mask.  I like my Spectre II but it is kind of ugly.

I like the gm22. Light, easy to clean and quiet.

I purchased the Mask for my first supressor sound reduction and quality of the build are incredible. I do not notice any FRP on my 22/45 Lite,10/22 or Savage Mark II.  Five supressors later I wanted another rimfire supressor. I narrowed it down to the Spectre II and another Mask.  As good as the reviews are on the Spectre II, I went with another Mask.  Shooting my 22/45 Lite I have never notice the pistol to feel overly nose heavy.  In fact once I start shooting it suppressed, the smile and enjoyment it brings makes the weight disappear.

I have a Spectre II and a GM 22, and love them both. They have different attributes, the Spectre is heavier but has little FRP, the weight is very noticeable on some guns. On some rifles it is nice to have the weight out there, on others not so much. The GM 22 is really lite and shorter than the Spectre. It is great on lightweight pistols but has FRP, especially on pistols.

Moral... Get two!

If I were choosing now, I would go with the Mask as my first rimfire suppressor, which wasn't out when I got the Spectre, then later I would get the GM 22 if you find the weight of the Mask more than ideal.

FWIW, my first suppressor purchase was silencerco omega. Then everyone kept telling me everyone needs a .22 suppressor to get the true "Hollywood" quiet effect and just right out fun plinking. I then proceeded to do countless hours of researching and watching reviews and I finally decided on the dead air mask. It covered about every need i could ask for, easily serviceable, barely any FRP and very quiet in all the reviews. I'm at almost six months now waiting on mine, I'm very excited about when I can take it home and have it in hand. Good Luck!

First can was a Warlock- it's a great one.  I do the brake fluid treatment and it's not too bad to clean.  I use some brushes and the fouling comes right off.  Takes about 15 minutes to really get the baffles spotless.

I put it on a Buckmark 5" that I had installed a TacSol 5" upper on.  Pistol with can is still lighter than the original pistol only with the steel barrel; almost too light.  A little more forward weight would make it more stable and recoil even less.  Warlock is the tits on a rifle. Super quiet and virtually no FRP.

That being said I bought a DAA Mask for my second can. (I have 3 boys and they all NEED one)

Haven't gotten it yet but the heavier can will be great on rifle or pistol and easier to clean.  I predict the Mask will see a lot more use once it arrives.  An extra few ounces on the lightened Buckmark will actually be welcomed.

Can't really go wrong with either.  If you put it on a threaded steel barrel I'd probably vote for a Warlock due to the weight.

I think that's really good advice.  Bought my first thru SSHOP and it went smoothly but bought the second one off the shelf and it went smootherer.  And that's a bonus if the shop is attached to a range and you can have visitation rights for the 5 or 6 months you own it but can't have it.

look at the specter II

It's an old design but is usually cheaper, is easy to clean, and has minimal FRP.

I have the Spectre II and the GM 22 and I'm the guy who suggested getting both. Any first round pop out of either is just a noticible up tick in the volume. I can't think the db increase is so significant that either goes from hearing safe to unsafe so long as you are using ammo that doesn't go supersonic.
