| Wanting to know if the rear cap of the Silencerco Spectre II is made from stainless steel. If so, I'd like to be able to strip the finish off so I can clean it easier in the pin tumbler. |

The manual states "The Spectre is constructed entirely from high strength stainless steel and is able to be taken completely apart for user maintenance" Some sites are stating 17-4, but I haven't found any official documentation from S'Co. |

The Logic - The Rear Cap sucks sometimes to clean if it is shot a lot / neglected. It sucks, a LOT.
The finish is known to be destroyed by US cleaning so most guys just do the front and rear caps by hand but throw the baffle stack in a ultra sonic cleaner. If you give zero fucks about the finish of the end caps - it is nice to know they are stainless as well and can get some action in the US Cleaner as well. That said, when I had the opportunity to clean a dirty Spectre II, I took the Front and Rear caps and SOAKED THEM, not RUN THEM, in the heated ultrasonic solution with Purple Power and scalding hot water. Then I just used a brass wire brush that fit snugly in the rear cap and spun it around and around until it was pretty much clean. Hard deposits came right off with a small dental pick. Then I re-brushed. Re-soaked, re-brushed, rinsed, dried, and oiled. It is time consuming but it is a fairly easy design to clean. Joe |

Next time I think I'm going to make a close-fitting tab of copper or aluminum as a scraper and then follow-up with a brush as needed. Pin tumbler would be awesome, though. |
