| I have an older Guardian 22 XL with aluminum baffles and want to upgrade to the stainless Kestrel baffles. It is $200 total, including shipping back to me. Has anyone done the upgrade on their aluminum baffles? Any sound difference? What I have now is quiet, little louder than my Spectre II. Doing the upgrade will save on another stamp plus the additional cost of another Spectre II or Mask. Thanks. |

I've got a Kestrel22 s/s. It's my loudest 22 can.
I like the concept and design of it (that's why I bought it); but it doesn't suppress as well as others. I hope HTA has gotten better with their customer service; no personal experience with them; but their reputation was terrible for a while. I'd get a Mask; Element2; Liberty Kodiak, Essence, Regulator; Thompson Machine Isis or Zephyr XL; or Gemtech before I waste more money into a Guardian/Kestrel. There are a lot of good 22 cans being made. I'd like to get a Mask; but at this point all I'd be doing is chasing decibels. My favorite 22 cans are the Element2, the Essence, and Spectre II. And the Thompson Machine integral Operative and Operative B rifles. My FFL/SOT was impressed with the Zephyr XL when he shot it. Just my .02 |

From what I've heard it gets louder because there's less volume from the encapsulated baffles. I've got a Kestrel 22. It's OK on rifles and that's where I leave it now. |

I do have one of the older, larger guardians, the XL. The one thing that concerns me is that when I got and shot it a bit and tried to take off the endcaps, one only came off with serious effort and I am afraid the other is seized/cross- threaded or something. So, if I try to get the baffles out, I may not get them back in.
Maybe should just bite the bullet and get another Spectre II. I definitely don't want louder, I love shooting CCI SV. |
| Can't offer too much, but I do own a Guardian with Stainless baffles and it suppresses as well as my sparrow. Overall, a fine, basic can. As for HT's customer service, I called them once to ask a question about a product and got a call back within 24 hours. Supposedly under new management, but can't confirm. $200 seems steep to replace the baffles; for that money, I'd just buy another higher-quality can. My two cents. |

Curtis tactical is doing two Guardians for me right now with stainless. Two hundred twenty five each. Joe told me he metered the new baffles at 113 after 117 first round. He will do aluminum baffles with stainless blast baffle for 125. Maybe I should give that a try. Would save me several hundred, and would want it anyway to be done. |
| I picked up a guardian XL about a year ago and had it upgraded to the SS baffles for $80. Took less than a week and was well worth it to be able to use ultrasonic cleaners and the dip, though i've only used the ultrasonic. Ten minutes and it's clean, half hour and it's sparkling new. |

This is a reply email I got from Curtis Tactical:
We do upgrade the Guardian 22's. The stainless upgrade is $225 and uses 17-4ss. Our time frame is currently 2-4 weeks leaning more to the 4 weeks. The upgrade takes the standard G22 from 127db to 116db first round and from 119db to 113db for shots after the first round pop. The upgrade has a lifetime warranty to the original purchaser against baffle erosion and we offer a satisfaction guarantee, if after one month you are not happy with the upgrade send the suppressor back and we install your old baffles and refund your money. We are offering free return shipping until the end of February on all recores. |
