I have a Tirant 45 can coming, and I really would like to start getting an idea of a shoulder fired small SBR for it.
Im really leaning towards a MP5K clone but am open to suggestions as this is something that wont be happening this year With so many different options out there I wanted to see what you guys thought was most enjoyable to shoot as well as a good suppressed quiet host. I want to keep it in either a 9mm caliber or .45acp |

I think a Reverse Stretch K is in your future; then add your favorite flavor of pistol to be a companion to your SBR/Can combo and have fun.
I have an MP5 Pistol from Turner Fab and an HK45-T, but still waiting for the Octane HD 45 with 3-lug adapter... (saving the money for it) |
|
AFAIK, with the Octane, all I would need to swap is the pistons 16x1 LH for the HK45-T/USP45T and the 3-lug for the MP5, which would need a fixed barrel spacer in lieu of the piston.

I see someplaces from the little research I have done that it is recommended to swap out the locking piece in the MP5Ks bolt to slow down the gun for reliable shooting when suppressed with heavy 147 bullets. However I never see them talk about reliability of the weapon unsuppressed after changing the locking piece I just didn't know if it was a real thing or simply "net talk" |

I know that on the .40 cals you have HI and LO locking pieces, according to the bullet weight (plus the fact that .40 cal is abusive on weapons like the MP5), I suggest you go to HKtalk and see what they say. There are members there with far more experience in those types of issues. |

Might want to take a look at the MPX as well. The AT94K I have is a blast to shoot suppressed. http://www.ar15.com/media/viewFile.html?i=72939&prev=1 http://www.ar15.com/media/viewFile.html?i=76787&prev=1 Which one do you prefer if you had to choose just one? Evo is an option as well. I could do that for around 1K all said and done it seems. That's 1K cheaper than what I have my MP5K build totaled up to. |

The MPX makes some definite improvements(ergos, pic rail, AR safety) that are hard to beat. It's also much cheaper than my Turk MP5 clones and all the extra work I had to have done on them(chopped/threaded barrel/3-lug). The Evo doesn't seem to be a bad choice either(other than questionable factory stock options at this point), but my personal opinion on them, they look goofy as hell with the current silencer adapters.

I bought an MPX and chopped the barrel down to 4.5", haven't shot it yet, waiting on the stamp. But, MKE just brought in their MP5 clones in again, I bought their two offerings a couple of years ago and SBR'd them, big favorites at the range with new shooters and me! http://i680.photobucket.com/albums/vv165/slipjett/IMG_6403_zpsce984226.jpg http://i680.photobucket.com/albums/vv165/slipjett/IMG_5265.jpg Quoted:

OP, Are you looking for pistol caliber semi auto rifles or actual transferable submachineguns? Wasn't clear from the title and OP. Pistol caliber SBR. I can see where the title would be misleading. Yea after looking at the wacky thread pitch the evo uses Im throwing it out. The MPX does seem to negate the one thing Im worried about having to deal with on the MP5K, which is not being ammo sensitive, or atleast that is what some of the reviews of the MPX are boasting. MPX just as quiet as the MP5K? |

How about building a 9mm AR. With the JP 9mm SCS, and a TROS 3-lug barrel, the build below is dang accurate, and loads of fun to shoot. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-I2emQhMdQtc/VXMtZfcV4QI/AAAAAAAAnAE/rEZwkmKyaM4/s800/IMG_1940_DPP.JPG For some reason I haven't even considered a 9mm AR build |

If you shop around sales you could put together a pretty nice 9mm SBR built on one of their glock or colt lowers. Depending in parts you choose you'd come out less than cost of SBRing a mpx and can build different length uppers overtime if you want a small K style upper or a SD style upper with the suppressor slipped under the rail. Magazines are also less expensive than the mpx. Luckily lots of options nowadays. Patriot Ordiance Factory (US company) is supposed to come out with their 9mm ar pistol that looks like it could run a side folding stock and msrp is supposed to be around 1k. |

This is an interesting development. Im thinking a side charger upper would go nice such as this one http://www.americanspiritarms.com/upper-receivers/asa-ar-15-m4-side-charger-upper-receiver-without-carrier/ I wonder if the side charger would make the weapon louder when suppressed however |

MPX just as quiet as the MP5K? Morgan at Class III machining (has an ad in the EE) does Evo thread pitch adaptors. |
