| I'm looking at buying my first suppressor, and I'm very intrigued by the Dead Air Sandman series. I like the QD mount on it, and hear good things about the sound. This suppressor will split its time between a 16 inch AR chambered in 5.56 (a 10.5 inch is next on my list) and my Remington 700 LTR chambered in .308. My local shop has a Sandman S at their other shop, and can get it as quickly as a Form 3 will allow. Nobody around here has the L in stock. I like the S because it is compact and will keep the overall length of both guns down, but will I regret not getting the L when it comes to my 700, particularly when it comes to decibel level? Is the L worth the added length/ extra price/ extra wait for my purposes? |

I would go with the S in a heartbeat for that application. I have an AAC 762-SDN-6 (very comparable in size and such) to the Sandman S that I've been using on a 10.5" AR, 20" AR, 20" .308 bolt action, and .300BLK Handi Rifle for a few years now and I love it. I really want to get a Sandman when funds allow.
If I were only putting it on the bolt action, I would get the L. For any mixed-use applications, I would absolutely get the S and not look back. The size and weight will be critical on your 10.5" AR. |

The L sounds absolutely fantastic. The S sounds good for it's size. (I like the tone of the S quite a bit).
It really depends, if size and weight savings is important, S. If you want the best performance, then go with L. There's a significant difference to my ears between the two. |
| How much of a difference was it in volume between the two? Was it enough it was just noticeable, or was it fairly significant? I wish there was somewhere I could shoot both, but most places here in Arizona don't even carry their product line, let alone have not available to shoot. |
