Hello, I've been lurking on the forum for a while. I've learned a lot and spent a lot of $. I never through i would consider buying a suppressor but now it seems like a cool idea.
The problem i have is that I have a S&W M&P15 TS with a pinned 14.5 with a vortex flash hider. What are my options as far as a suppressor (mounting)? What route would you guys go on a budget? Am i asking the right questions? Thanks in advance. BTW, yes i am aware of the Form 1 and other legalities. |

You'd need to find someone to detach the flashhider currently on there, unless you want a suppressor that will attach to your vortex. You would have to check with smith enterprises to see if what you have will mount anything in their line. Then you need to have the new suppressor mount muzzle device permanently attached to your muzzle or form 1 the gun as a SBR. Your mounting options are QD and thead-on. There's plenty of info out there on the pros and cons of both, so I'll leave that to you to look up. I wouldn't even consider price on a suppressor purchase honestly. My advice would be to assess what suppressor fits your needs best and save your money until you can buy it. Being stuck with a suppressor that has features you don't like, but you bought because it was cheap is a bad way to go. ETA I ended up with a surefire 556rc because I wanted the best mounting system out there, but I'm not under any illusion that it's the lightest, quietest, or best value out there. I think the best value award probably goes to something like the Specwar, which is half the price of a surefire and a few db quieter. ETA2 Even with a can, 5.56 doesn't really suppress that well. If you want hollywood quiet, look into a rimfire suppressor. They're cheaper, they're quiet and they're a much better bang for your buck. |

Thank you for your reply. Yeah, it probably better to save my pennies for something i would enjoy more. I really don't wanna register my rifle as an SBR (i do some out-of-state shooting). The pinned flash hider i have is just a pain but i guess thats what i get for not thinking ahead.
I looking into the suppressor you recommended, Looks pretty sweet. |
