[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Spectre II Report (Page 1 of 2)

Sounds like a good time. 22/45 Lite is the next host I'd like to add. 1st Spectre II should be approved any day...2nd just had F3 filed on Monday. Starting out with M&P 22 and M&P 15-22 (w/ 4.5" barrel)...plus a GSG 1911-22 that I ordered yesterday. Always glad to see reports of the stuff advertised as 1100+ FPS staying subsonic. |
| I have a second .22 suppressor in jail a HTA G22. I am going to upgrade it to the K baffles. In talking with people that have shot them, I have been told they seem as quiet as the Silencerco stuff. I paper filed it, though, and it went pending 1/16/14, mailed on 11/27/13. |
| I picked up mine last week. Much quieter than my old sealed pilot and my sparrow. I would say there is still FRP (not the no FRP I hear all over the internet!) but it is the quietest 22 can I have. Might buy a warlock as a light weight version also, they seem very similar. |

I picked up a GSG 1911 the other day for a host as well. Did you take advantage of the Palmetto State Armory sale at $229 plus $30 mail in rebate?? |

With no tax and the fact my FFL doesn't charge me, final price is $199.99. Then I paid almost that much for 5 more mags and the SiCo adapter. |

Is this quiet enough to shoot without earpro? I should pick mine up tomorrow Depends on the ammo and shooting conditions - for me, subsonic and an open field is comfortable without earpro. Shooting outdoors yesterday was great. Absolutely no ear pro needed. In fact we were all talking while shooting. It was great, pellet gun quiet, maybe even a little more. The guys were all smiles about how quiet it is. Even when there was the supersonic ammo, I don't think ear pro was needed at all. I really like this can. |

That's interesting, I've shot a bunch of CCI Blazer and Federal bulk pack stuff and it all stays subsonic out of my 22/45 Lite. Quoted:

All but the CCI Blazer and Winchester Small Game stayed subsonic. That's interesting, I've shot a bunch of CCI Blazer and Federal bulk pack stuff and it all stays subsonic out of my 22/45 Lite. Didn't have any Fed Bulk Pack to try and only a few with the Blazer, maybe transonic vs. supersonic, not sure. |

Was it a coupon for the free shipping? Also, what dealer did you go thru for the recent can purchase? |

The price got to the point I couldn't resist, either. Was looking for another host that SiCo had an o-ring engagement adapter for. Quoted:

No coupon...just their deal going on right now. Good through Sunday on all firearms. First can was SilencerShop through NC Silencer. Next two were directly through NC Silencer. Last three were SilencerShop Direct (using a dealer in Asheboro). |

I've had my eye on several hosts, specifically those that SilCo makes an adapter for. Just too cheap to pass up! |

Might buy a warlock as a light weight version also, they seem very similar. The Warlock II is basically the same length/diameter as the Spectre II, but weighs 3oz instead of 6.8oz. I considered the same thing when I decided to add another 22 can. However, I also have a 5.7x28 upper, so the multi-caliber capability of the Spectre is important. May even add the FN Five-seveN pistol at some point. However, the real reason I opted for a second Spectre II was the options I have in cleaning the SS baffles. |

Now we just gotta find some good threads on suppressed GSG 1911's and bump them to the top. I have read that GSG has fixed many of the problems on these since they came out several years back. From the reviews I've seen, the only negative is from people hating on the zinc alloy. Most all new 22 pistol hosts where the whole slide/action moves are made out of this lighter mixed metal due to the low pressure from the 22lr round. Others cycle just part of the bolt (Ruger/Buckmark), thereby allowing for a stronger meal to be used on the upper. At $199 shipped, I would strongly encourage everyone to take advantage of this record low price http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ecioBQZfio |

GSG 1911 arrived today at my dealer. BUMP! Also, Lanbo's Armory had about the lowest price on the Silencerco GSG1911 adapter for use with the Spectre II at about $32 shipped. Mine also arrived today...but I won't pick it up until Friday at the earliest. And Spectre II is going to be another 2-3 weeks. Decent price on the SiCo adapter. I got mine for $30.49 shipped from Sportsman's Depot. Found any deals on mags? |

I shot it for the first time last Thursday. Really fun little gun. I have the previous version of the 22/45. I think it safe to say that the barrel diameter is equivalent to the diameter of the spectre. I should be approved when feb 13 submissions roll around. Looking forward to it |

I checked their return policy, and it's 20% plus I pay return shipping...so I'll just keep mine. |

I shot it for the first time last Thursday. Really fun little gun. I just picked up that model a few weeks ago from Grabagun for $350. It's an awesome gun for a suppressor and it's dead nuts accurate, I was really surprised by that. You can also keep it pretty quiet by holding your thumb on the back and not letting it cycle. Be sure you keep it oiled, I just noticed a bit of surface rust on the exposed part of the bolt on mine. The only downside is having to reload all the time cause it only holds 10 rounds and they go fast.

| Glad to find this thread. Was looking at a Spectre II the other day because LGS didn't have the Sparrow in stock. Is the new technology on the Sparrow a big deal and worth searching for if the Spectre II's a little cheaper and readily available? I'm new to cans, so anything is going to be quieter than the can I don't already have. |

Is the new technology on the Sparrow a big deal and worth searching for if the Spectre II's a little cheaper and readily available? I'm new to cans, so anything is going to be quieter than the can I don't already have. Spectre II is an inch longer, but basically identical in diameter and weight. Both are rated for multiple calibers, up to 5.7x28. They both are designed to keep lead off the inside of the outer tube, but do that through very different methods...both of which are successful. I bought a Spectre II first. When it came time to buy another rimfire can, here are the two reasons I bought a second Spectre II instead my first Sparrow: 1. Easier to put Spectre baffles in a small tumbler than it is to put the Sparrow monocore (if you use the dip, or ultrasonic, this isn't an issue) 2. Spectre II doesn't have the FRP "issue" of the Sparrow of short barrels. Since my four hosts are currently two 22LR pistols, a 4.5" 22 SBR and a 6" 5.7 SBR, this was something for me to consider. Many will tell you it's not that big of a deal, but since I had the option, I chose the quieter can...twice. Sparrow is a great can. But, as you mention, it's an extra $100 or so. The one advantage (to me) is the shorter length...but that wasn't important any enough to me to cause me to buy one, especially with the weight being as similar (6.5oz vs 6.8oz) as they are. |

With Federal bulk pack, both sounded about the same with the Spectre having less FRP. Switching to CCI Standard velocity the difference was pretty obvious. The Spectre had much less FRP and was quieter than the Sparrow with a better tone. Still haven't had time to shoot the Spectre on a rifle yet. Awesome. |

I thought the FRP issue was just with the very first round after you've cleaned the can and when it's new. My understanding was FRP was caused by the baffles not being perfectly lined up, which is corrected by the gasses accompanying the FR. Does FPR occur every time the can is removed and reattached? Please explain. |

Please explain. FRP is caused by combustable gasses within the can. Air is 21% oxygen by volume. Once that burns up after the first shot (or two), then you will have nothing left to burn and no more "pop". |

Quoted: Interesting. Thanks for the information. I see some cans discussed as not having FRP issues as much as others. If it's a matter of oxygen inside the can, wouldn't all cans suffer the same? I believe it's the volume of the blast /expansion chamber which has significant impact on FRP.

All has to do with the design. Monocores are more likely to have it than K-baffles, as one example. (And blast/expansion may very well be part of the design that impacts whether or not FRP exists, and to what degree it exists). Same reason why Sparrow has it more than Spectre...and Osprey has it more than Octane. |
