So,
I've googled with no so specific results to be helpful so i figured i would try it here....
I have a 14.5" pinned to 16" Rifle.
The spec on the barrel is a 14.5" FN CHF barrel, with no shoulder before the muzzle.
I want to run an AEM2 or 3 on it.
What collar do i need? Will the M4 collar work or will the barrel need to be machined to accept it??
Can I just use the 12th model and run an AEM5 (although I dont want the extra length)

sorry....

That would be my suggestion as well. They're very familiar with the Ops In/AE devices.

You can also email/call Ron Allen of Allen Engineering he can make any custom collar for you.

Yep. Either ADCO or Ron.

Drop on over to the Industry section and post on ADCO's section. One of them will have your answer.

What do you currently have pinned to the barrel?  Considering the current device will have to be removed/destroyed, and the barrel needs the .700x.700 muzzle step to do it right, I'd sell that barrel and buy a new one with the proper contour and new AE mount.

Of course, your current barrel can be altered to accept any AE can you want, but for the costs involved..

You bring up the best point so far..... You guys did the pin and weld(with fantastic turnaround time i'll add). Its a spike Dynacomp. New barrel might just be the most cost effective route. of course new barrel would mean new handguard with the set up I'm thinking of running. then new handguard might as well be a new upper....... friggin Ar15........

The whole reason to use the Ops inc was to meet in the middle with adding a suppressor to the rifle without gaining unnecessary length to the end. I sent AE an email asking the amount of overlap that would be present for the proper set up, but no answer. I suppose it's simple math, but I wasnt sure which mount would be required.... until now...

Thanks for advice.....

Also, thanks again for work done on rifle. I was going to send it back to have the device removed and new put on if needed.

We'll cross tha bridge when I get there though.

Every once and a while I think that it would have been easier to get HALO or a can with a dedicated QD muzzle device, but carrying the rifle around for any length of time cures me of that pretty quickly.  I'd still get an Ops or Allen Engineering can if I had to do it over again.

Related: a big +1 to ADCO for adding steps on barrels and hooking me up with collars.
