I am about to start the process of getting a suppressor for my 223. But I'd like the option to shoot it on my 22 as well. I know that shooting a 22 in most, if not all, 223 cans is a no-no b/c of fouling.
I guess my question is, is this do-able? Is there a can that will do both and that can be broken down to clean? |

Yes, but I wouldn't buy one. http://www.silencershop.com/shop/huntertown-kestrel-5-56/ this is why... ( from my thread on mini cans) Quoted:

Huntertown Arms warranty and serviceability seem to be the best. umm really? Is this a troll post? First thats a full size can and weighs more than my saker and almost the same length. Seconed it has not gotten the best reviews ( 7.62 version) http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_6_20/420641_Suppressor_finally_made_it_home__.html http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_6_20/421324_Kestrel_7_62AK_on_a_5_56_Krink______sucks.html And cant find the thread here but didnt one of these just blow up on a guy like literally the can blew apart. Ya no thanks. ya here it is was in GD. Wish the pictures still showed up http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_1_5/1595598_Worst_range_trip_ever__Pics_of_brand_new__blown_up_Suppressor_SBR___UPDATE__contact_from_HTA_in_OP.html |

If you are looking to get more out of the can look into a 7.62 version you can also shoot 5.56 and then a separate .22 can.
The reason you cant shoot .22 out of most .223 rated can is because they are full welded to make them stronger to handle the pressures behind that round. Because the are welded closed you cant take them apart to clean them like you need to do out of a .22 can. If you want you biggest range of options get a 7.62 can and Octane HD45 or similar it is a pistol can that you can also shoot .22 out of ( it would be a bigger can than a dedicated .22) OCTANE 45 CALIBER: 9MM - .45ACP .300 BLK Subsonic .22LR SPECWAR 762 CALIBER: 5.56 - .300 RUM |

If you use it just to take a few shots while out hunting, it'll probably be fine. But if you plan on using it a lot to target shoot and such, it'll get caked with lead fouling.
Like others have said, the only can rated for 223 that can be take apart for cleaning is a kestral, and it doesnt have very good reviews. Better off to just buy a dedicated 22lr can or if you want more versitility and can sacrafice size and weight, a octane9/45 would work too and can be taken apart for cleaning while still being able to be used on 9/45 |

I have a HTA kestrel and i love it. There has been like one or 2 cans fuck up but they are great cans. Who hasn't had growing pains in their products? "Fuck up" for the other companies is some minor issues like a bad latch. With HTA you are talking about the entire can blowing apart. Glad you're happy but I'll stick with the other guys. |
