Im not as up on the hard use type 5.56 cans as I should be, as my usual focus is on precision rifle cans.  Basically I narrowed my decision down to the G5 for one reason alone, the attachment method.  I have a few SBR's that the muzzle is inside the handguard, and I could not find a QD type can that would allow removal in that case, so I was relegated to a direct thread.  Enter what appears to be THE quickest QD can there is, at least that Ive seen yet in the G5.

So why have I been reading quite a few bad reviews on it?  The one thing Ive noticed is they all seem to be from 2010 and older, yet I dont see anyone talking about them recently.  Have they redesigned them?

My MAIN purpose for this is to run on my 11" full auto demo gun.  Im not going to be doing any BETA mag dumps out of it or anything, but maybe a 30rd dump here and there.

Thanks for the replies.

I love my G5.  I have that at the Quicksand as well.  Both have the same
attachment system.  They are very durable and quiet cans.  They are super
easy to move from gun to gun......which is what led me to them.  The very
fastest on/off of any suppressor.

Only 2 "slightly" negative points.......

1 -  The Smith Vortex flash hider mount "TINGS" very loudly.....I hate it.  I
had to machine down the prongs to different lengths to get it to shut up.  I
would go with the Phantom or the new "Jake Break" if I could do it over
again.  But I have 4 mounts and the Jakes are $150 each.....OUCH.

2 -  You need to take the suppressor off and on every couple hundred rounds.
If not, they can "stick" a little on you.  Not a huge deal and I am constantly
putting mine on different rifles.  If they do get stuck, don't fret it.....a medium
"WHACK" on the end of the suppressor with a RUBBER mallet or a 2x4 will
knock the "sticky" out of it and all is well.  (only had to do it once)

Good luck with your excellent suppressor.

I've had a G5 for quite a few years, the only time I ever had a problem with it sticking was with a PWS mount with out-of-spec lugs.  Never a problem with Gemtech mounts.

I have a G5, a quicksand, and a G5-22.  Love them and love the bi-lock. FWIW, i have 2 aac cans also and all shoot great, but i prefer the gemtech mounts.

Have the G5, HVT-QD, G5-T and Quicksand. Love them all and suggest them to anyone who is in the market for fast attach and flexible use.  I really like that I have many different hosts and can swap cans around quickly.

I've even used them on precision guns so to speak, Rem 700 LTR .308 and MK12 Mod 1 - keeps sub MOA without issue. Slightly tighter groups with can attached.

Love the bi-lock design.

I think you made an excellent choice.

Good to hear.  Apparently everyone gave them a bad rap for not being able to handle 800 straight rounds of one mag rapid fire, then one mag full auto, etc.  Its possible maybe they have redesigned the core and that is why I stopped seeing people talking shit about them after 2010.

Thanks for the replies, interested to keep hearing more also.

I love my G5.  I use the Phantom-style QD, and it's fantastic.

I've had mine for a few years now, and have no complaints.  I really like how easy it is to take on and off.
