So I'm seriously considering getting a .22LR suppressor while I still can with my trust (assuming Its not already too late?)

My first choice would be a Huntertown Arms Fusion T22 integrally suppressed 10/22 barrel. I know all the arguments for integral vs. screw on but I really want an integral and the HA model is exactly what I’m looking for. Problem is, no dealer in my state seems to have one in stock and I don’t have the time or patience to order one so it looks like if I’m going to do this now, it going to be a screw type.

Obviously the 2 most popular models is the Sparrow SS and Spectre II. The Sparrow is a little lighter and shorter and easier to disassemble. The Spectre is less expensive but it’s big selling point to me is it’s caged K-baffle design. As I understand it, a K-baffle design is much less likely to have any FRP compared to a mono-core design like the Sparrow? I know some people say the FRP issue is overblown but I personally do not want any FRP, even if it is only a few db’s louder.

So the Spectre II seems like the one for me but then I read about the Warlock II which apparently is the same can with Aluminum internals instead of SS? The use of Aluminum makes the Warlock both lighter and less expensive which I like but are not deal makers\breakers. As I understand it, SS cans have these advantages… 1. Typically full auto rated (not an issue for me). 2. Multi-caliber rated (again, not an issue for me) 3. Easier to clean. 4. More robust. Seeing how those last two are the ones that seem most relevant to me, let’s focus on them.

How much harder is an Aluminum baffle to clean compared to SS? I’m guessing people like the SS because they can use a tumbler or ultrasonic cleaner for them but what are the cleaning options for Aluminum? I’m going to say up front that I’ll probably go with the Spectre II but I do want to fully explore the differences between SS and Aluminum?

Thanks

I would stay away from a tumbler. A soda blaster is the way to go.  If you go SS you are also able to use the dip as well.

What is "the dip"? What are the options for cleaning aluminum?

The dip is a vinegar and hydrogen peroxide mix that dissolves lead buildup on the baffles.
The byproduct is lead acetate which is a hazardous chemical that needs to be disposed of properly, not just poured down the drain or chucked in the back yard.

I just use a toothbrush and some type of commercial gun cleaner to clean my aluminum baffles.
It takes longer but not a big deal.

ETA: I currently own a Gemtech Outback IID but plan on buying a Spectre II in the near future.
The low FRP and versatility are the selling points for me.

It is a lifetime purchase, be patient and get what you want.  Form 3's take 3months at the most and are much faster with the new e-file system. I have a YHM integral that is extremely accurate and quiet, might want to check that out as well.
Final advice: GET BOTH!

I read on one of the other suppressor sites iirc; that you can neutralize the dip solution after use by adding table salt to it until it solidifies.
Now I don't think that it negates the lead that's in it, but should make it easier to dispose of.
ymmv

That Huntertown integral is interesting; I ended up with a Thompson Machine Operator B and am happy (didn't know about the Huntertown).
Sparrow or Spectre are both good choices; seems the Spectre is a bit more favored lately.

FRP is also dependent on temperature and humidity; and can you guarantee all of your ammo loads (.22LR) will be consistent.
I get a hotter load sometimes out of the same box.
You could pre-purge the barrel with CO2 or N2 if it's that important.

I have a Sparrow and to me the FRP is either non-existent or I just don't notice it.

If it was just a matter of 3 months and nothing else was going on that would be one thing but...

1. Every dealer I talked to stated that HA is very slow to fulfill orders
2. I'm sure the govt shutdown is effecting transfers.
3. At best I have until the end of the year to submit something under my trust

Getting both may be an option down the road but I want something I can purchase and submit my paperwork for ASAP.

Sparrow for the win. Don't go aluminum and the extra cost of the sparrow doesn't mean squat compared to the tax stamp, wait and the cost of the 22 you end up shooting though it.  I shoot 10x + more 22 since I have had mine.

Buy exactly what you want. I would also shop dealers until you find one with product in-stock. The difference in costs is negligible over time for these 22 cans.

I have an innovative arms apex .22 suppressor and love it. It is easily taken apart and cleaned.

I had so much trouble deciding between the Sparrow SS and Spectre 2 that I ended up ordering both.

Hopefully I will have them before the end of 2014
