How much?
In stock locally?  Or online?
What specific models are you looking at?
What do you plan on mounting it on and possibly the future?

I can tell you first hand that one of my local dealers had the Gen1/2 Surefires for pretty damn good prices compared to the SOCOMs.  Makes decisions tougher if you ask me.  Better is very subjective.

Which performs better?  Which has the better mounting system??  It will be used on a 10.5, a 16, and a 20 inch AR.  All 5.56 guns.  Price is not a big issue.

Get a SOCOM 556-SB for a 10.5" barrel.  Has a larger bore axis for that barrel length.

Will it perform alright on my 16" and 20"?  Is the larger bore axis the only difference between the RC and SB??

Yea, you'll be fine on the other lengths.

Surefire disagrees with you on this.  The SB was made specifically for sub-10" barrels like the 8" G36.

OP, get the SOCOM.  The mounting system is better and there is always a risk that SF will stop making the legacy mounts at some point.
