Gentlemen,

I bought a Surefire 762 mini in early December 2012. My dealer checked with Surefire and they had them in stock. The dealer told me (and I believe to be true) that it would take about 10 weeks for the can to be at the dealer and ready for me to begin my paperwork. The can still has not arrived and the dealer claims that the problem is with either Surefire or the ATF.

What are my options to find out what the problem is and how to get it fixed? Call Surefire, attempt to contact ATF, ...?

Thanks for your help.

Don't call surefire because they probably won't care since you are not the dealer or affiliated with them
Don't call the ATF because your name is nowhere on the form 3, so they will probably refer you back to the dealer.

What could have happened is that Surefire "HAD" them in stock when the dealer checked, but by the time the order went through and was processed, they ran out.
If that is the case you have a couple options.

You can wait until surefire makes more

You can contact other dealers that actually have them in stock and are ready to be form 3'd

You can choose another suppressor

Above is correct.

Let this be YOUR personal lesson that you only ever buy a can that's in stock. Seems like most people need to make that mistake for themselves at some point.

Call surefire and ask for Garin.  He" MAY" be able to help you or at least direct you to the right person. He is not in sales but is the Category Manager for the suppressor division. Garin is one hell of a good guy and posts here under Kudu22

ETA : I just spoke to Garin and he said to give him a call next week.

Thanks for all of your help.

I heard back from my dealer and apparently the can wasn't ordered until March 5th. They blamed SHOT, the holidays, yada, yada, yada. They also said that, unbeknownst to them, Surefire has a five can requirement before you can place an order. The whole thing sounds fishy and I will not be doing business with them (the dealer, not Surefire) again.

Also, lesson learned as posted above; do not buy a can unless it is in stock.

Again, thanks for the help. I have previously spoken to Chuck at Surefire and he helped out with my questions. If the can doesn't show up soon, I will contact Garin.

The solution to this problem is to find a dealer to do the transfer through then purchase from Silencer Shop or Major Malfunction.

Either of those two are super easy to deal with when the product is in stock.

This is true.
I was in on part of my local dealers first Surefire Suppressor order.

Garin is really easy to contact. He does everything he can to help you out. Try getting in touch with him. If you still can't get a serial number to start your paperwork, call the guys at the Silencer Shop. They recently received an order of SOCOM series suppressors. They'll definitely help you get going if they have it.

Major Malfunction is wholesale only now. He no longer sells to retail customers.

WTF, 4 months to order a can?

Definitely find another dealer.

But if he's got it in stock, you know its in stock.  I told my dealer to call him after I confirmed he had them in stock and went from there.
