I just bought a new suppressor, a Cyclone. Its a thread on I plan on using for my 300blk I'm building and generally it will stay on it. My dealer meationed it would be rated for my 300wsm and maybe 30-06, but I'm alittle hesitant about using it on them. I wrote AAC on facebook but it seemed general. Heres what they say.
Advanced Armament Corp. As a general rule of thumb, you can use a larger caliber silencer on a smaller caliber firearm, provided you follow some simple guidelines. There are three categories of silencers: rimfire, centerfire handgun, and centerfire rifle. As a general rule, stay within the same category when using your silencer on an alternative caliber. You can use a silencer on an alternate caliber as long as the projectile diameter and pressure are equal to or less than the caliber the silencer was designed for. You can use 5.56mm in a silencer designed for 7.62mm, but you should not use a .300 Ultra Mag round in a 7.62mm silencer. Stay with equal or less case capacity then the silencer was designed for. Using a silencer in an alternate caliber can be fun and cost effective, if you use common sense and stay within these guidelines. I have a Winchester Model 70, 300WSM with a 24" barrel, and a Savage Model 110, 30-06 with a 22" barrel. Would they be safe using the Cyclone or would the pressure be too much? |
| The cyclone is not rated for anything over .308 in pressure. The construction of the cyclone and old 762sd differs. The outer tube on the cyclone is thiner. The cyclone will most likely take 300wsm and 30-06 but it could eventually bulge the tube. The most I would run it on would be a long barreled 30-06 and thats about it. 300wsm is to much for it. |

Ok I was under the impression that 30-06 and 308 calibers were close to the same in pressure. I did a google search on the difference between the two calibers and ppl commented that they were the same. Maybe I should just sell my 300WSM and get a 308. |

Why didn't you go with YHM??? ![]() It was a toss between YHM and the Cyclone, he had both in stock. I want the suppressor tucked abit under the rails and the cyclone has a smaller diameter. Its for my 300blk pistol build. This will be my third suppressor, and not my last so I still might get a YHM down the road. I remember you got the Ti Phamton right, how do you like it? Was it the 556 or 762 version. Arent the 762 Phantom rated for magnium calibers? ETA: I do like the way YHM locks up on the barrel. And I believe they include the mount right? |

I have the Cyclone K. I asked AAC if I could use it on my 22" 30-06 bolt gun. I was told it would be fine. I have not tryed it yet.
ETA: I just looked up the SAAMI specs. .308 Win Max pressure= 62000 psi .30-06 Springfield = 60000 psi... Link... |

I e-mailed them and they said it wasnt rated for either calibers. I just e-mailed the link. Not sure how well it would suppress a 30-06 and we cant hunt with them yet, but would like to know my limits. When we can hunt with them I may be more inclined to try it. Thanks again for the link. |

He said SASMI lists chamber pressures not muzzle pressures. He said the muzzle pressure is what matters to suppressors. |

Ti 7.62 version and yes she's rated for magnums. |
