Finally got my Tax stamp back on my Surefire Mini Suppressor. Submitted May 22nd, Pending June 20th, Approved Nov 09th, and Received Nov 17th. This is my first suppressor and I'm anxious to get out and test fire it. First impressions...this thing is light and doesn't add much front weight. The fast attachment takes maybe 3 seconds and is stupid easy. For being a "Mini" you can tell this thing is built like a tank, solid, and baffles on the inside look thick and you can see they are internally welded. I will leave feedback letting you guys know how 'hearing safe' it is on my 11.5'' BCM.

We should get our stamp back for our 5.56 Mini any day now. I think we're coming up on the 6 month mark. One of the guns it'll go on is a 11" barrel. Not a chance in hell it'll be hearing safe. But it'll be more pleasant to shoot, and in the unlikely event it ever gets fired indoors without hearing protection, hopefully it'll just be painfully loud instead of causing instant permanent hearing damage. Really looking forward to picking it up. |

I plan on shooting a video to try and capture the sound from different angles and distances running suppressed vs suppressed. I figure one from shooters perspective, from behind close and far, in front close and far, and to the side close and far. I'm also trying to get a hold of a decibel reader from work to also measure the sound levels. We had one at one point but no one seems to be able to find it.
I used a MB556k muzzle brake mount. Surefire, over the phone, strongly recommended this mount on SBR's to reduce wear to their suppressors. http://i1278.photobucket.com/albums/y509/Jared_VandeRyt/Rifle%20Suppressed/IMAG0080.jpg |

Now show us it after you shoot |
| I'm anxious to find out. Where I shoot is surrounded by 12 foot high berms to the left, right and backstop. So I'm hoping that helps absorb the echo and sound. At the very least it should make it extremely comfortable to shoot with ear pro. If anyone has sound equipment or other suppressors, I plan on shooting this next Friday in Batavia Ohio at my private range. |

This. Fullsize cans on ARs are not hearing safe AT THE EAR. The action and ejection port are very loud to the shooter's ear.
Now, I'd prefer a can over no can indoors in a HD situation any day, and even for general shooting except for the dirty aspect I still prefer suppressed. But anyone that claims the bullet crack, action, and ejection on a suppressed supersonic AR is hearing safe - already has permanent hearing damage and is to be ignored on the topic of noise and safety. |

It's not refelected sound that is the issue (maybe with the crack it might be) but the action and ejection port are going to be loud at your ear. You are going to need to shoot with plugs for any sort of planned shooting. The suppressor will be invaluable for not-planned shooting. |

We'll be out with ARs and my 556-212 this weekend in Delaware OH |
| Well I finally got out and test fired this bad boy. We put about 400 rounds through it, using a standard carbine buffer. No problems at all and it ran perfectly. This was also using M855 ammo. I'll be completely honest, it was just barely too loud for no ear protection. I did shoot one mag without and it didn't bother me but I'd rather be safe and not go deaf at 27yrs old. Keep in mind it is running at an 11.5 inch BCM. For my buddy who was about 20 feet away, it was fine without protection. Recoil was very slightly increased but not noticeable unless pointed out. Gas blow back was none, even for my buddy who shoots lefty. Dirt...well it was a filthy mess lol. The bolt carrier group was black after 3 or 4 mags. Point of impact shift was zero. All together it rocked, it eliminated the blast and concussion. If you want no ears, maybe full can is better, like I said its very very close. |

As someone said earlier... Not a chance in hell that will be hearing safe. I've heard that exact can on a 5.56 SBR. Not remotely hearing safe, but was a welcome respite from the concussion of that muzzle brake rattling my fillings. FWIW, I was also only 4 feet away. Nice suppressor - thanks for the report & hope you enjoy it. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |
