I know everyone will want to say "WAIT"  LOL. But thats not what I am asking. I see others knowing where they are in the wait process like when packet was received or when check or Money Order was cashed. Even down to who their case worker is. How do you get this info? I have been searching the forum and the BATFE website and I dont see anything about this. Help me out. I doubt my paperwork has been started as I mailed it out this past Friday. But I am still curious.

check out nfatracker.com.  You'll find everything you want to know.  Once you get the name of the person reviewing your application you can even see the average wait time for that person.

I don't see how keeping track of your paperwork helps with the wait. In the past two years, I've sent in eleven Form 4s and eight Form 1s and the only time I had to call the ATF was to check on a Form 4 that was going through a dealer that started to go out of business before my Form 4 was approved. I recommend spending your time on hosts for your suppressor and planning on more NFA goodness. Good luck.

Just mail it off and forget about it.  Plan on 4-5 months  Go find a mount for the can, that part took two months for mine. The more you think about it, the worse it is.  Then when you least expect it, you dealer calls you to say its arrived.  If your like me, he will call when you just started your vacation.

I like to do the NFA part first (be it form 1 or 4)

Then I'll start the building process.  That usually takes a while and helps keep my mind off the wait

you know when the packet was received via your shipping method

pretty hard to track when a money order was cashed, isnt it?  (I dunno)
besides, when your money is cashed has little bearing on your timeframe.  so dont use it as an indicator.

after a month or so, you should go "pending"
if you have to, wait 6 weeks then call to find out when that pending date was.  then use nfatracker to figure your approximate wait after that.  in leiu of that, just add 5 more months to your pending date and that'll be an approximate approval date.  assuming there's no issues with your submission.  then plus/minus the whole thing by a month.

fun, huh

Mail it and forget it.  Thats it.  Your not helping yourself or them by calling or "tracking."  If there is an issue with one the fill in the blanks on the form or your finger prints, they will send it back for correction, and you resend.  Plan on 5-8 months.

You can call to check the pending date in a few weeks then from there just wait.  If you sent a check you can see it clear your account.  That is about it.  I sent in two form 4s at the end of july and I am expecting those just over 4 months door to door.

The first month and the last month are the most difficult.

Im sorry its gonna be a long winter for you.

Start planning your next NFA purchase.
No matter what dont think about it. It'll drive you crazy if you do.
But there's good news. Waiting on the first stamp is always the worst. It gets easier after that.

wait wait and more wait....  Then when you've had about all you can take, wait some more...

just finished my 6+ month Bid on two F1s...

Really, all you can do is find another hobby to fill your time...

Either start reloading to stockup ammo till it comes in or spend time with the misses (if thee is one) to make up for the time she'll lose when it comes in...

So let me see if I get this right " JUST WAIT! " Lol.

Thanks for the responses, I sent a USPS Money order because it was done by a trust. I already have the host pistol. ( Ruger SR22 w/ twin tactical barrel ) Also the good part is I can go the store and play with it anytime in their range. I already have my next 2 cans picked out and they will be a month behind this purchase hopefully, depending on how I juggle Christmas gifts for the wifey.

The hard part will be the next 6 months not only because of the wait but because my job is sending me to Chicago Ill for the next 6 mo. thru the winter. No range time in the worst 2nd amendment rights state in the country. So I really cant wait for the next 6 mo to end on another level. I do come home for 1 weekend out of each month to let off some steam though.

Just so you know for future stamps, The ATF dont care who's name is on the $200 check, as long as its included with the forms.

Good to know, cause I was under the impression that if you used a trust you would have to get an account i the trusts name or use a money order. I cant remember where I read heard that but I remember it my days of research.

In the future, use a personal check.
That way you can see it come out of your account.

I did a trust checking account as thats what my lawyer that did the trust recommended, but like most opinions here, I've people swear by each way...

Not saying its the only way at all, but it worked fine for the last two Form 1s, that I just got the stamps back on,,,
