I am new to Class 3 items and I specifically created my account here to research Suppressors, (among other things). I thought I would share my experience so far to help other people that are new to suppressors.
I settled on the suppressor that I wanted in June, I found an online dealer that had the one I wanted and placed my order, I had my local SOT send his information and then I waited. I heard that the dealer to dealer transfers are taking longer as well, anywhere from 4 to 8 weeks, so I did not hear anything for 8 weeks and I called my online dealer. It turns out that they have not received it yet, they sold me a suppressor that they were supposed to receive 2 months ago, but they still haven’t. Of course they apologized profusely, they admitted that they should have contacted me weeks ago when their expected shipment was delayed, (or when my suppressor was not in the shipment they did get). They say they do have a shipment from the manufacturer in transit right now, if my suppressor is not in there they will give me whatever one is in there and bump whoever that one is for. They will have to do another transfer form for the ATF to my dealer here, but that is no big deal. I do not hold this against them, I understand why and how this happened and as I said they were very apologetic about the whole thing. Anyway, I just thought I would share my experience, if you do not hear from your dealer that you purchased from in 2 weeks, give them a call, 8 weeks is far too long. I do understand why this happened, as all who deal in suppressors and Class 3 in general are super busy right now, but still, these hassles are why more people are not willing to get into Class 3. It is one thing to pay a special tax and wait for ATF approval, but when you also have to deal with manufacturers and dealers that are so busy they have trouble communicating with paying customers, let alone keeping product in stock, it is just too much for some people to deal with. So here I am still waiting, hopefully I get a suppressor at my dealer next week. |
