Ok so here is where I sit.. i would like to add a .22 can and have been looking at the AAC Pilot 2 due to reduce price and being able to take it apart to clean.. But i was wondering through a local shop and i saw they has some of the older sealed Pilots for $199.99 (and in stock of course)... So my question is, would you pay an extra $140ish or so (added price + xfer) for the one that could be taken apart... I currently dont shoot too much .22, but i dont know how much that would change as I would then be able to just walk out back to shoot with the can... So what do you think of the $200 price point on the original pilot.. any downside im not seeing other than the fact its sealed? I keep all my stuff clean and do so shorlty after shooting..
Not looking to spend the price for a .22 can that i can get a centerfire can for.. and please just keep it to these 2 cans worst case what kind of lifespan are we talking on a sealed rimfire can if it were never cleaned (or attempted to clean) Host weapon would be a 5-7" .22 AR upper and maybe a pistol down the road |

First...go user servicable without a doubt. I have an original Pilot. The only reason I do is because it was free (except for the stame of course). Since getting it a few months ago it's already almost doubled in weight (about 2k rnds). Still sounds good but I will have to send it to Stalking Rhino to be jailbroken after I pick up another .22 can and get the stamp on hand.
Next...any particular reason you're looking at the Pilot 2? $340 isnt' a great price for one and you're almost in Sparrow SS territory. The Sparrow SS seems to be one of the best ways to go if you're going to buy a .22 can. While the SS isn't the quietest .22LR can on the market, neither is the Pilot or Pilot 2. User servicable no matter how many rounds you run through it...unlike the Pilot 2 which you could seal up if you don't disassemble it every couple hundred rounds for cleaning (even with the pusher tool). Look for one semi local and if you can't find anything...it's worth the 4-5 week wait to have one F3'ed in to your dealer IMHO. |

I could be open to other, just not getting into prodigy price range.. Just couldn't bring myself to spend that much for a .22... I'm really not in a huge rush as I really don't NEED it, but more of a want.. I think the most I would be looking to spend on a .22 would be around the $350 tops. Then I have another $50 transfer on top of that.. That's the cheapest transfer I have found locally... We actually have a shop locally that has their own line that is completely user serviceable that they have claimed was more quiet than any others out there for $300, but I was gonna try to stick with a larger reputable company.
Ghost Suppressor Edit- seems price went up $20 since the last time I looked.. Claim a 49-51db reduction... I do know they are a great company overall though. |
| Plenty of SOT's make decent .22LR cans...but yeah I know where you're coming from. You should be able to find a Sparrow for close to what you're wanting to spend. You're also doing really good on the transfer. I don't have a dealer within 200 miles that charges less than $100 that's worth a darn. |
