I have my first can on its way (waiting on the stamp) and someone told me that you can't run hollow points through it. Is this true and if so why. It is a 9mm can
thanks |
| They say that because of the chance that the bullet will expand before it leaves the can causing a baffle strike. Chances of that happening are slim. However, if you're shooting 9mm you will want something subsonic. That's usually 147 or higher which is harder to find in a HP. 147 gr HP will usually be +P charged anyways which will NOT be subsonic and may damage your can from the pressure. |

I've never seen a +P or non-subsonic commercial 147gr loading in my life. Could you please link to one. |

On older-style cans that relied on replaceable wipes (piece of rubber/plastic that a bullet would actually pass through), hollow point bullets would cause premature wear. IIRC wipes were added to the list of "suppressor parts" back in 1986, so manufacturers generally stopped marketing cans that use them to the general public, as users could not keep multiple spare sets handy.
You should not have any issues with hollow points on a modern, wipeless can. |

I have some doubts that a 147 grain +P load would damage most 9mm suppressors though. Most 9mm cans are fine shooting 220 grains of 300 Blackout at 1050 FPS, I don't see how 147 grains at 1180 FPS is going to be any worse. |

(P9HST4) That said, it's a long from claiming that all/most 147gr is +P. Either way it's a non issue in regards to the OPs suppressor. |
