I just picked up my Octane 9mm on a sig p226 tacops. I ran 150 rounds of 147 grain through it. I had a total of 4 FTF, I racked the slide and all is good. Is this normal for shooting heavier bullets coupled with less pressure to cycle the slide?

It has more pressure to cycle the slide, 147 should be the same powder charge as a others just slower due to the heavier bullet. Could you post pics, I assume you have a booster/neileson device? How much distance between front of gun/op rod and the can? It's less pressure. Heavier bullets use a smaller powder charge. Think of the 9mm cans that you can shoot .300BLK through. Subsonic is okay, supersonic is not. That's because supersonic has more pressure. OP, you may just have to break in the Nielsen device a little before it functions 100%, or tweak your loads. |

Dude we are not talking 300blk. We are talking 9mm I just checked Hodgdon's charts 115 and 147 both range in the 20,000 to 30,000 psi range and avg between 25,000 and 27,000 psi.
The 115 with around 27,000 psi goes about 1100fps where the 147 at 27,000 psi is about 825, heavy bullet goes slower same pressure. Add to that the the fact that the can adds blowback/backpressure I doubt that pressure is the problem. You are correct that he may just need to break in the nielson device but it could be some thing else thus why I asked for pics. OP you bought a great can do not fear it will work out. |
