What's the minimum barrel length I can get by with to shoot my 5.56 AR with my SRT Hurricane supressor without hearing protection? I'm prepared to get the necessary tax stamp.

I've got a 16.5" barrel on it now and it is way too long (end heavy.)

This is a 50 yard gun. Occassionally I'll shoot 100 to 200 yard shots but most shooting is done up close. I want a quick, short gun without having to wear hearing protection.

Thanks in advance.

My 12.5 is pretty quiet.

But if I am shooting more than a couple shots I throw on ear pro.

I think I'd be happy with the length of the 12.5 but I'd also rather be able to shoot a couple hundred rounds without hearing protection.

I'm not sure 14.5 would be worth the effort of going SBR.

11.5 is quiet .... but still wear muffs.. but if you wanna chance it go for it

IMO any shooting done in a situation that gives you the chance to
Use hearing protection i use it

I agree with this.

And if you're still dead-set on a 50 yard gun that you're going to shoot with no ear-pro, I would go 9mm. It suppresses much better and cycles better in the shorter barrels. You can go 5-7" or less in 9mm with no issues.

I appreciate the advice, but I already have a 5.56 can and don't want to buy a 9mm can. A 7.62 can on the end of a short 300 Blackout barrel is a distant goal though.

Unfortunately there is no barrel length on a 5.56 AR that will be hearing safe suppressed. Even on a 24" you'll be above safe thresholds, so just get the barrel length you want.
