so, since it looks positive that Texas is going to reverse its stance on hunting with a can, I really want to thread the barrel on a rifle my girls use to hunt with.
its a ruger no 3 in .223.  it was my first deer rifle and I've now "passed it down" to my oldest, with the next two waiting to get their hands on it when its time.
having them shoot suppressed is so much better than ear pro, so I really want to do this.
however, are there any issues?  I only ask because I dont think I've ever seen any falling blocks with a can on them.  and since the breech is right under their eye, I want to know about gassing, etc.

TIA

obligatory pic:

if it looks funny, its because I bought a second stock (ruger no 1) and chopped 3" off the butt with my chopsaw, then worked the buttpad so it would fit again.

Thats awesome.  Should be ZERO problems suppressing it and I would have threaded it long ago.

Do it.

especially measure the OAL of rifle.  I bet it will be very handy even with the suppressor on.

On my to do list one of these days when funds allow

They will still need a level of hearing protection when shooting that.

It shouldn't be any different that suppressing a lever gun or a bolt action rifle.

In fact, Like the two previously mentioned, it will likely be even quieter than a semi-auto as there will be no action noise.

Should be GTG!

yes....plugs will be worn.  muffs are too big/bulky on a 9 year old and cause other problems when I'm trying to whisper to her.

the reason it hasnt been threaded prior, is that I havent shot that rifle since I was probably 10.  and now, with the short stock, its actually uncomfortable for an adult to shoot.
besides, I have other 223/556 rifles to shoot suppressed

thanks for the input yall!

With a good suppressor like an M4-2000 or an Ops 16th or 12th model at the ear noise (on account of locked breach weapon shown) should be in the vicinity of 126DB which is pretty close to suppressed rimfire levels, and at or below most wet pistol suppressor 10 round averages.  They may decide they still want to wear ear pro, but the shooters ear sound should be fairly safe with a good suppressor.
