I did a search, but if there is another thread please link.

I'm considering getting a Gemtech G5 when I turn 21 in about a month and a half. I have already bought the mount, but haven't put it on anything. Still in the box.

What are some opinions on this suppressor? This will be my first obviously. I read a thread on another forum, and the opinions were even split if not a little negative leaning...

I have one, I like it. Other people like other ones.

I have one and like.  Does a fine job of quieting down a full pow .223.

I plan on replacing my HALO with one when funds allow.

I have had one for about 4 years now... cool suppressor, works well,  I like the fast-attach feature.   Good suppressor.

I've enjoyed mine for a few years now.  Its a great can you won't go wrong with.

I like mine.  I got it because I've had good experience with GemTech cans and customer service in the past, and my local dealer had one in stock.  Someone can always point out something 10% quieter or 10% sexier, but it works well enough for me.  No .223 can is going to be movie-quiet.  The QD mechanism works nicely, and there are multiple manufacturers making compatible bi-lock flash hiders and compensators.  It gives almost no measurable point-of-impact change for me (between 4 different rifles).

Thanks for the responses guys. I feel better now going with it. I really just wanted to make sure that it wasn't a complete piece of crap.

I had my HALO converted to a G5 type of mount. Cost much less and I did not have to wait for a new stamp either!!! Call Gemtech, they will set you up.

You can do that??  Wow.  Thanks for the tip.

I've thought about that and i'd rather have both. The HALO allows friends to shoot suppressed when they're shooting with me.

I would recommend that you look in to getting a good 308 silencer.
They can be just as quiet as some 223 silencers, but much more versatile.
I wish that I had gone 308 instead of my 223. You may think that you'd never go 308 (I sure did) however, I now have 3-4 308 rifles around and will have to get another silencer for them.

There are better options in my opinion. May I ask what what attracted you to the G5?

A local dealer has them. My buddy behind the counter, whom I trust, told me it's a good can. Like I said, this is my first suppressor and I know nothing as of yet. Just researching.

He is right, it is a superb suppressor.  You will like.

The G5 is an excellent suppressor, the only thing superior about others is opinion and perspective.  Depending on your mounting preference there are about 6-10 that all perform about equally.

I have one... about 1000 rounds through it so far.  Good suppression, very nice lock up on the mount.  I can;t think of anything bad about it.  If I had it to do over again, I'd happily repurchase.

If you're talking about Silencertalk, be aware that it is an AAC shill/fanboy site.

I believe it was silencertalk. Yeah it did seem biased toward aac.

The guy that runs it actually works for AAC.

Don't get me wrong, AAC makes great cans.  I own one of their Ti-Rant 45's.

But part of their marketing scheme is to bad-mouth other brands, and Silencertalk is one way they do it (or rather, get their fanbase to do it).

I have put a little over a thousand rounds through mine and it has done nothing but perform wonderfully.  You will not be let down with a G5.

I've been running the M496D for about 15 years now.  It has never failed me.

I just picked up the G5 and can't wait to put some lead down range.

Love mine, and I'd buy it all over again.

I've learned a lot about Gemtech in the last two years. I know that when I buy Gemtech products or utilize their shop, I'm also getting excellent customer service to go along with it.
