I am sure this has been covered a lot here already but I can't seem to find any old threads to help me out. I am looking at several .223 suppressors. One is the Gemtech Halo, another is their G5. I also like the YHM Phantom.

Before I ask this question, I know that you cannot silence the ballistic crack of a bullet going faster than the speed of sound so please do not comment on that. But as far as the rest of the sound signature, what is the best can for db reduction? Seems the YHM Phantom is claiming -35db and the Gemtech is just a couple dbs less than that.

Sound reduction as the only factor: Which is the best?

If you want quiet (and thats just about the last thing I demand from a can) then you should be looking at the OPS INC 3rd, 12th or 16th models.

I am no where near the wisest on this board concerning suppressors and I have little experience with them.  But to tell you the truth I am very impressed with the g5 from gemtech on both of the AR's I have used it with.  I couldn't be happier with the noise reduction.  It's very similar to a .22lr out of a 10/22 in my opinion.

There is no short answer to that question. There are to many variables to consider such as barrel length, ammo used, humidity, air pressure and others.

The quietest one I have ever personally heard is the AAC SPR/M4.

Ops inc 12th for the ultimate in quiet.

I have the G5 & have been very happy with it.  Of the suppressors listed in the OP it's the one I would choose (obviously).

I've purchased several suppressors for each of the major calibers (22lr, 9mm, 45, .223, .308).  The G-5 is one of a few that I don't regret buying for any reason.
