I'm really interested in adding a sound suppressor to my Bushmaster. Problem is, more I learn, the more I get confused as to the best one for me. So I thought I'd throw it out to the AR15 community. I'm looking for advice and recommendation based on the hierarchy of needs below, listed top to bottom, in order of important and desired features:

1.Sound reduction, first and foremost.
2.Company reliability and quality
3.Attachment style
4.Cost

My confusion comes from the fact that when watching videos on Youtube or looking at pics of proud owners on the forums, a lot of them are still wearing hearing protection. I don't care how light, sexy or tacticool your can is. If are still having to wear protection to prevent hearing damage, it won't end up in my collection. I looked at the YHM thread-on Phantom at Impact Guns the other day. Heavy as hell and no QD feature but the dB reduction was 35 which is 5 more than my best muffs. I'd like a good deal but I'll spend more for more sound reduction.

Anybody able to help me out, thanks in advance.

I answered in your other thread, but here it is for posterity:

Briefly: suppressors don't necessarily make a gun hearing safe. There are a lot of factors involved. Rifle silencers make the muzzle blast quieter, but they can't get rid of the sonic crack which might be quite loud.

The shooting environment is also a factor... my rifle silencers are not hearing safe at my covered range.. they're still quite loud. They would probably be hearing safe out in the open though.

Your environment has a lot to do with it. Do you think 22's are loud? How about a 22 indoors? Or a covered shooting position?

22's aren't loud, but the environment is going to determine whether you need hearing protection or not.

My YHM makes my 308 sound a lot like a 22.. you hear the sonic crack and that's about it. But is that hearing safe? Not from a covered shooting position it isn't.

AAC's M41000s are good cans and reasonably priced.

IMO, the M4-2000 is probably the best all around 556 suppressor on the market.  It's quiet then most (to my ears at least), relatively small,  solid construction,  no absurdly heavy,  great attachment mechanism, all lead it to be probably the best selling 5.56 suppressor out there.  At least that is what I have seen.
