On a 12.5"

I don't think my local Class 3 keeps Surefires in stock, but if he did, which would you all choose?

I like the Surefire. Much lighter too as I recall.

I have 4 YHM cans.

You can't beat them for the price. Other brands might be a tad lighter and slightly quieter, but I can't justify the extra expense.

I have four cans for the cost of one or two AAC/SF/KAC/OPS Inc, etc suppressors.

YMMV

How much do the SFs go for?

those cans are so different in every way, they shouldn't even be compared.

effing A, I was moving away from AAC for that reason.  Looks like a Phantom for me.  With their QD flash hider, will I have enough room for the suppressor on a 12.5" barrel and a DD LIte 9.0 rail?

Plenty of room and the logical choice.  No point in throwing money away

You don't want the MICRO. It is for 14.5" barrel or longer. Now the MINI is GTG.

But also double the price of a Phantom.

Stupid budget.

its also a special purpose can. If you're just looking for recreational ooh's and aww's. Go with a normal full size can.

Nah, plan on going private security, nuke plants and such.  Have an associates in Criminal Justice, going for a bach. in Security Management at the moment, may even stick it through for the Master's program.  We'll see.  I'm treating this as if it will be a duty gun.  Not that that is guaranteed at all, just the angle I'm taking since I'm still in school.

Get yourself a copy of Combat Tactics and go to page 116. You will see what we have been up to here in the SureAFire Suppressor Divsion.

Should I get a Ram 1500 quad cab 4x4 or a Mazda RX-8?

Those are two very different cans with different design philosophies. They have almost nothing in common, except that they are both fast attach 5.56mm silencers. I recommend you first determine how much you are willing to spend, altogether, including the tax stamp, transfer fees, etc. Second, you should decide whether you are willing to wait the extra time for a Form 3 transfer to complete if it means getting the product that you actually want (something I would strongly recommend considering you have to wait anyway). Third, write up a list of the features that are most important to you, in order of importance. That will answer your question.

I guess I wasn't aware there was that much of a difference.  I just want a good balance of length - just started the SBR process, would be stupid to spend the money and have the rifle length sitting at 20" - suppression and cost.

What other factors should I consider?

Thanks.

You mentioned length, you should also consider length past muzzle. The YHM product mounts to the muzzle while some other cans overlap the barrel somewhat.

Some other factors in no particular order: weight, cost, POI shift, repeatability of POI shift, mounting options, muzzle device options, materials, dB reduction, cost of mounts, the list goes on and on.

For your purpose, the Surefire would be lightweight and short. I'm not sure how the sound reduction measures up to other full size cans including the YHM or even Surefire's other cans. The YHM is widely reported to have good sound reduction and be very durable but a bit heavy and obviously longer than a Surefire Mini as well as much less expensive.

There's a lot to consider and even the cheapest cans involve a not insignificant amount of money. I recommend you do A LOT of reading here and on other silencer related forums before spending your hard earned money on anything. If you can afford to get what you really want, get it. You'll always kick yourself for compromising.

ETA: My Surefire FA556AR mounted to my 11.5" AR is about the same length as a regular 16" AR.
