I have a Win. Model 70 in 270 with a sporter 24" barrel. I would like to get a sandstorm for it during the next (please) Gemtax Sale in April. To mount the sandstorm I need to have barrel threaded to 5/8x24. Unfortunately my barrel is not 5/8 thick until about 3in down from the muzzle. I realize this would be the bare minimum, and would leave me no shoulder to butt the can up to. To get more shoulder would mean cutting the barrel even shorter than 20", which is probably getting stupid on a 270. Does anyone have any solution for this, or am I in for a new barrel to complete this project?

Thanks.

Have it threaded in some thread it will support, and get a thread adapter from that thread to 5/8x24.  ADCO does a lot of this type of threading work.

or we can cut it down the 3" and make a custom washer/shoulder for it to tighen up against.

Thread 1/2 x 28 and get a 1/2 x 28 - 5/8 x 24 adapter locktited on.
