Has anybody done this cleaning method with the YHM phantom 7.62 can?
I believe it is all stainless so it shouldn't hurt it. I bet I have 2000 rounds through it. But what it affect the finish on the can? |

You been shooting cast bullets? The dip is for lead. No sir, I didn't know it was for lead only. YHM reccomends cleaning every 2000 rounds, according to the manual. I hear all the time that you don't have to clean them also. The main reaon I want to, is because after shooting with it a lot on my ar and the smaller .22 cal FH, the inside of the can where the larger .30 cal FH makes contact (becuase the .30 cal FH supports the can in two spots) is getting tight from carbon and making it harder to srew on. At least thats what appears to be happening. You can tell there is a lot of build up in side right where the of the FH sits. I was just looking for an easy way to clean it out. That build up in there is rock hard. |
| Ultrasonic cleaner actually works great on all steel cans..there was some thought that it wouldn't get into the middle baffles to well but it does a very good job..Besides you really only need to worry about the first two..I just use water and dishwashing soap..some of the chemicals in the industrial ones will strip the finish..I just use a commercial jewelry grade one..Its great for AR bolts and such as well.. |
