With an AR-15 suppressor, do you still have to wear ear protection? Does it make your ears ring? I know not to put my .22 suppressor on it!
Thanks

Some suppressors a quieter than others, but yeah, you should still wear ear pro. The db level is still above what is considered safe. As far as comfort goes, if you are fine with shooting unsuppressed .22 high velocity rounds a suppressed .223 probably wouldn't bother you.

I have a YHM SS Phantom on a f/a m4ish. If no one else is shooting, I usually don't wear ear pro but my buddies do. I noticed after shooting for a while, I would get some discomfort in my right ear. Lately, I've been shooting with friends and no one else has a suppressor so I need to use ear protection regardless.

Like the poster above said, it depends on the can that you have and what you're comfortable with.

OK cool......it sounds kinda like my .22 can.
the first couple shots are loud, but of course get quieter...depending what ammo I use, it would be good to use ear muffs
does that make sense to everybody else or is the .223 louder to you guys who have experienced both (with you shooting?)

I also have a YHM Phantom Stainless.  If I am in an open area I can tolerate .223 for about a mag full.  Under a covered firing point, which I normally use, it is louder.  I tried it without muffs a few times, but the sonic crack is enough to make me wear them.  If you get a compact pair of electronic muffs you probably won't want to take them off.  I use the Impact muffs by Howard Leight.  They are around $50 and comfortable and work well for the price, and compact to boot.  I actually use them to hear hits on distant steel targets when using peep sights.  Most of the older guys use them for "hearing aids" at the range.  Personally, I would use hearing protection at the range at all times.  It might not sound loud, but it is doing damage.  On the other hand, with my CMMG conversion and Remington subsonics, it is deadly quiet.  The bolt moving is the loudest thing.
