Please bare with me here with my rantings. I ordered a suppressor though a local dealer 8 months ago. Had to special order it because no dealer around me (with in 3 hour drive) stock them and most local dealers did not even want to order it but finally got one to agree to order it for me. I talked to the manufacturer before ordering the suppressor to get a time frame and was told 30 days until the next batch was made. I watched the dealer call the manufacturer and then send the order in via email. After 4 months still had not heard anything. Contacted manufacturer after watching on line dealers getting the items in stock and then selling out only to get more back in (and selling out again). Manufacturer told me they had no orders pending and all had been filled. They then said they had no order on file from my dealer. Went in to my dealer the next day. My dealer pulled up the email and called the manufacturer while I was standing there. The manufacturer "found" the order and said it was still pending and would be done and ready to ship in 2 weeks. 4 weeks later I contacted the manufacturer again and they said it would be done in a week and sent off to be form 3'd. So I waited again. Checked back with my dealer about 2 months after this and they still have not heard anything from the manufacturer.
Here are my issues beside the long wait––- I had to pay half the cost up front before the order was placed. This was a dealer thing and the manufacturer has not been given any money yet. I wanted to have the form 4 sent in before May. I just got married and I know there will be a fight coming over this when its time for the form 4 to go out. Wanted this paid for and forms sent in prior to the wedding to avoid the fight. Also starting to get concerned that its been so long that I may have to fight the dealer to get my money back if I canceal the order. I doubt I can contest the charge at this point on my credit card if I have to fight with the dealer over the refund. HOW LONG SHOULD I WAIT BEFORE CANCEALLING AND GETTING MY MONEY BACK???? If I could even find out if the form 3 was pending this would make me happy but I can not even get this info right now. I also will not post which Manufacturer is involved in this because they seem to be very well thought of here on AR15 and I am not trying to bash them but looking for when I should say enough is enough already. This would have been my first suppressor but its taken so long that I have bought three others already. Two are pending form 4 and one is waiting on form 3 still. Thanks for any useful thoughts or advice. EDIT––its been 8 months and not 7. |

A couple thoughts for you:
I had a buddy order an AAC SPR/M4 from a non-stocking dealer. He, like most folks, had to pay the ENTIRE price up front before the order even went out to the Manufacturer. He had waited 4-5 months before he found out I was into cans and we talked about it. I told him it was unfortunate he didn't order from Major Malfunction and just have it transferred into his dealer. His dealer swore he ordered it when it was paid for. We called AAC and they said, "who's that, we never got an order from that store?" So then I knew the local dealer was just jacking around with a guy they thought didn't know about the process just to keep his money, $1200 of his money! So under my guidance he went in and said he wanted his money back. They cut him a check on the spot, which did not bounce btw, and he ordered from the Major. It came in a timely fashion and then about 3 months later it got approved. You're not saying which manufacturer it is??? Could they really be that bad as to keep losing the order? Not likely, but I guess it's possible. Is the can not available online from Major Malfunction? I ordered a Scout .308 can from Griffin Armament awhile ago and even though they have it in stock sitting there, the dealer transfer time right now is just ridiculous; no way to get around that one. I know they aren't jerking me around, it's just how it goes. If it was me I'd cut my losses and regroup. I would go in and calmly/nicely say that my situation has changed, ask for my $$$ back, order it from M3, then have it transferred to another local dealer if that's all possible. You could also save out 200 bucks now and then when it's time for the F4, say, "Hey I found $200 in these jeans, I've got the perfect way to use it." Personally, I made the mistake of ordering a pair of YHM cans from a non-stocking dealer. It took a LONG time to get them and they even scewed it up and gave me a steel 556 can when I ordered the SS. Chalk that up as a lesson learned the very hard way... I haven't and won't make that mistake again. I will pretty much order from Bryon at M3 whenever possible. as always, YMMV. Internet advice is usually worth what you pay for it... These are just my own thoughts based on my past experiences; both good ones and bad ones. |

Thanks for the response. First let me say I well never order an item from a non-stocking dealer again. I never checked with Major to see if they had these in stock or not; they are not listed on their webpage and it does say they sell them. To be honest I was trying to save some money, $100 dealer to dealer transfer fee the one dealer wanted to charge for NFA transfers( have now found one that only charges $50 which is more reasonable to me) and internet prices are $100 more then what the dealer was charging. I am not claiming the Manufacturer "keeps loosing the order". I think that idea may have explained the first 4-5 month delay. The last contact I had with the Manufacturer they did confirm they had the order and it was a week or so from the form 3 being sent in but this was in March. And I really am not naming the Manufacturer because I have never heard anything bad about them. The Manufacturer seems very well thought of by people who use their stuff nad other people in the biz.
I am thinking how I want to go forward. The dealer I used for this order is not my usual dealer. This was my first time using them and will be the last. There are two dealers much closer to me and with lower prices. My usual dealer has only been doing NFA stuff for 8 months and they do not do special orders on suppressors. If I knew for sure it was not on a form 3 yet I would try and get my money back tomorrow. I am not sure how form 3's work. If the can is already waiting for the form 3 approval and I canceal the order, does this screw the dealer or does the form 3 just gets cancealled? |

When you call the manufacturer they will not give out much information to you. To protect the customers and dealers. The only way to get straight info is to have your dealer call the manufacture. Check your inbox To be honest the Manufacturer involved was very helpful the first 6 months of this. They talked with me prior to ordering and during my wait. They just have not been responsive the last two months. |

I'm in the same boat right now, ordered a suppressor back in December from a non-stocking dealer and still waiting. Dealer said my suppressor should be in soon though...
I actually got tired of waiting and bought another suppressor from a stocking dealer in February and just picked that one up today. I'm only buying from dealers that have what i want in stock now. I mean the wait for the ATF is long enough, 5 months for approval. Having to wait 8 months to get a suppressor and then to send in paperwork, that's over a year of waiting, which really sucks. But I would have to think your suppressor should be coming in very soon. Talk with your dealer and see what he says. |

The manufacturers I've dealt with won't submit the Form 3 to the ATF until they've been paid, unless the purchasing dealer has an account or line of credit with them. I doubt your dealer has such an account since he had to special order the suppressor for you. Any comments I have regarding the fight with your new bride over paying for the suppressor would be more appropriate for GD. |
DONT PAY FOR A CAN THAT DOESNT EXIST! Make sure when you part with your money you immediately get a serial # in return. Buy from a dealer in your state that has what you want in stock. Only buy from the walmart of silencers(MM) if all else in your state cant follow through.

My 18X1 thread pitch Cyclone is one of very few made and no one keeps them in stock because of the metric thread pitch, AAC had to build it. M3 didn't have it. My M4-2000 in 6.8 that I bought in 2007 was not in stock anywhere in the country I called/emailed, AAC had to build it. M3 didn't have this one either. Sometimes you don't have a choice but to order something, just know who you're dealing with when you order it. *Not bagging on M3 at all, he just didn't have the oddball cans I was looking for. |
