+1.  Why bother?  The trust is the only way to go.

well i work for my local pd, and i could just walk into the chiefs office and have him sign the papers, but if it has to be the sherrif I would have to call and set up an appointment and who knows how long that will be.  I love run on sentences.

Not much.  Get a copy of Quicken Willmaker 08 for 8 bucks and it takes about 15 minutes.  It worked for me.  You can choose to spend 300-600 bucks and have a lawyer put it together for you.

Be careful getting an older one, as trust laws in some states may have changed since then, which would make your trust invalid.

My 2010 version will be here soon, then I can finally start on my paperwork for my sparrow.

your Chiefs signature will work fine, the trust is popular to bypass the CLEO signature, fingerprint cards and passport photo requirements as well as make the items on the trust more easy to transfer and skip future tax stamps to transfer the trust after death.

heck I think even his designee will work, such as an Assistant Chief

I had one form4 get kicked back last year for an assistant chiefs sig. I had to resubmit with the chiefs sig and it came back approved about 2weeks later.

If the police force is listed as normally having jurisdiction over the block you live on the chief may sign for you.

Me too BUT, I explained the Sheriff was gone for an extended period and it was later approved.  They just get confused by all those rules.  Just too many!

Undersheriff has signed two for me.  No problems on either.
