How much meat does there need to be to thread a AR15 barrel?

If anyone has the specs or links for 308 and the pistol cals it would be greatly appreciated

Thread tenon diameter is major diameter x.995 and there needs to be some shoulder to torque up on.

AR-15s with a .700 muzzle and 1/2 x 28 threads have about .100 shoulder, on the radius.

An AR-10 with 5/8 x 24 is going to have .040", on the radius with the same barrel diameter.

The superlight barrels have a shoulder at the muzzle, but I don't know what diameter it is.

I'd say .625"

The less shoulder you have the more easily it will be to damage the shoulder from an impact to the suppressor, but smaller shoulders of ~.625" will in my experience be better for retaining the silencer in use on account of higher PSI of force on the smaller shoulder with equal torque.  The greater surface area the same torque load is spread over, the less PSI will be produced.

That higher PSI produces a higher drag on the surface, reducing tendency for it to slide which would allow it to loosen.  That seems to be what's happening here.

Thanks Green0

Even though most of that went over my head I think I get the gist of it.

The reason this question came up was I was thinking of choppng the barrel on a standard sporting rifle(bolt gun) and wondered it the sporter barrels had enough to thread.
