Here's a review I did on the Sandstorm that was lost to the archives. Love my Sandstorm.

Just more proof of GTs commitment to their customers.

Did you ever find out what the problem was with the HVT?  I love my TPRS.

I have a sandstorm and will probably send it in to be converted to a quicksand.  I love it.  It is light and quiet,  I have only fired it on a 16" LR308 with Federal Premium and it sounds like a 16" 22lr.  You can distinctly hear the bullet impact at 200 yards.  You eill like it.

Because of construction techniques and welding sequence, the Sandstorm cannot be practically or economically converted to a Quicksand (or the other way either).

Sorry to hijack OP, but,
Phil,

I have had some dialog going with Kel regarding this conversion where he has not only said that ya'll could do it, but what it will cost me, basically the difference between the cost of the 2 (roughly $400).  Is he incorrrect?

If the quicksand has repeatabillity in  POI when removed and reinstalled with the QD device as the Sandstorm does, it will be very much worth the money.  At 13 oz. the sandstorm doesn't make the weapon muzzle heavy for what it is.  I am really wanting to build a 10-12" 308 SBR and the QD feature would be great for moving it between hosts.

No, Phil got back with me and said that the mfg. process made doing a conversion on a sandstorm VERY cost prohibitive and close to impossible.  Whilst it could be done with the HVT, doing it with the Sandstorm is a no go.  Really kinda pisses me off that we were told NO PLANS for a QD version and low and behold, here it is.

However, I really like my sandstorm, really like it.  If the Quicksand is as good, I would recommend it to anyone.  Gemtech is offering to pay the taxes on a Sandstorm, sooooo.......

Thanks for the update. I have seen the Sandstorm available for $999 shipped (and no NFA tax right now). I see the Quicksand at $1400 + $200 tax. Would you say the QD is worth $600 to you? I'm curious to see as to whether it would be that big of a deal for myself.

It all depends on what you intend to do with it.  I really wanted a QD model but we were told no go.  I have several 30 cal rifles as well as 22 cal. and moving a 13 oz can amogst them was very appealing (17oz w/ qd).  No I would not say the QD is worth $600, when a 762SD can be had for $800(ish) plus tax and is only an oz or two heavier.  But like I said earlier, I REALLY LIKE my Sandstorm, but it is a bit of a pain to switch hosts,

A good customer of mine just ordered one under the Gemtax deal and I quoted him $1100.  That's a really decent price.  The local dealer has to pay sales tax which is a big chunk of change on a $1100 item.

The silencer is higher cost being titanium obviously.

I'd be inclined to agree that $600 for QD seems high.  On the other hand the Bilock mount is also a couple ounces lighter than the 7.62SD mount so it's really like 4 ounces different. Does the 7.62SD now come with a mount or are you still paying for that seperately? Does the Gemtech product come with the mount? That may again further offset some of this cost.
