If (for example) Robinson would make a 10"-16" XCR bbl for the XCR Micro, could the length in front of the gas block be used to create an integral 5.56 suppressor?

The reason I ask is the general consensus among suppressor manufacturers of no bbl <10" due to concerns over baffle strike.

I assume integral would eliminate this concern, approximating the OAL of a 7.5" bbl w/ can.

I also assume it's cost-prohibitive/limits the suppressor to one platform, which may make it impractical in the minds of many.

Thoughts?

You pretty well got it already.  It can be done but its too impractical.  Vents in the back and you lose velocity (556's goodness) and vent the front, you might as well buy a reflex designed can that can move around.  I think your way over thinking this or trying to cover too much at once.  Just MHO

If you do spend the money, you'll probably be one of a handful (if that many) to have one.  Cool'ish factor points jump!

I've been interested in this for a while because my state allows suppressors but not SBRs.  I've thought about getting a 10.5 AR upper then permanently attaching something like an AAC Ranger 2, but I don't know if that can be done without jacking up the barrel and/or can.  So a truely integral suppressed AR barrel would be kick ass.

It can be done with the right money but a custom set up won't be cheap.  If you got a 10.5" LWRC piston upper, have AAC custom make (just the mount change to an extended thread) M4-2K, and have them be Perma tached together.  You could change any piston parts by moving hand guard, you'd have a piston upper for lower maintence, and a great can that'd be light and last a lifetime.  If I was in your state, that'd probably be the route I'd go.

Save if you have to but I would not ever buy a moderate can when a good-great can can be had.  A project like this would be even harder to sell later than a can would and those already suck.....

So you're saying a QD can would be easier to permanantly attach?  How would that work?  I was thinking of pinning a thread on can just like you would with a flash hider.

No, I think he's saying to get a custom-made M4-2K with a threaded end-cap instead of the QD. This way, you get top-rated suppression in a can that's easy to perm. attach.

Ah.  That sounds like a plan.

Is the concern baffle strikes or is it excessive heat/pressure from the short bbl affecting the can?

Most mfgs. will not warrantee their product on <12" bbls.

You got where I was going with it.  An AAC M4-2K with a threaded end cap, maybe even a bit (1/4"-3/8") of an extended female thread just for room to work.

I think below 10" (like 7.5") has potential for lack of stabilization but pressures start to add quickly below 12".  I have seen multiple 7.5"'ers work just fine but I know I wouldn't trust just anybody with my can on the end while I let the other person pick ammo.
