I had planned for some time to buy AAC suppressors, but after much research, and looking, I have fallen in Love with the Surfire line of suppressors and muzzle devices.  I had told myself that I wouldn't spend that much, but have access to what I consider decent pricing on surfire products, and as such, plan to go that route.  Now for the question:

Suppressor companies such as AAC, Gemtech, and YHM all have 7.62 and 5.56 cans that work with a qd system similar to surefires.  My question is, if I buy a 7.62 surefire can, and the qd muzzle device to go on my M14, will that same can work on a surefire 5.56 muzzle device.  I know that if I were to buy a AAC 7.62sd with qd attachment, I could attach that qd can to a 5.56 with an AAC qd attachment no problem.

Could you please tell me which muzzle devices are compatable.  I'm thinking the 762ss and the 556k both have similarly designed muzzle devices, and this would by my choice in cans.  But I plan on starting with the 762ss.  I'm buying the 556k break for my AR and was wandering if that device would fit with a 762ss can.

Or do I just sound like this ––->

thx

ETA:  I may be mixed up on model numbers for the surefire cans.  I want the ones that do NOT overlap the barrel, I don't mind the length.

This.

They are friendly and knowledgeable. They also tend to answer their phones quickly and are very patient when a certain customer asks stupid questions and pointedly insists on very specific answers. Plus, their phone system is set up so that if they can't asnwer your call right away, you can push a button and have them call you back based on your position in the call que.

It's not a stupid question, though and I can certainly see why you would want as much versatility as possible out of your can.

Don't listen to the AAC fanboys, you'll positively LOVE your Surefire can. Not that there's anything wrong with AAC.

if nothing else I can turn a new mount that is the same size as the 762 mount but with 1/2-28 threads.

Well I contacted surefire and wasn't impressed with the answers I received.

The guy I spoke with wasn't very nice to start with, and I hate it when customer service is poor.  Anyway, I'll try to keep my rant about CS down.  But as a hint, if a customer asks for a product that does the same as another companies product, don't tell that customer to go buy that product, try and sell yours...

now back to the regularly scheduled thread...

The guy from surefire said that their cans are caliber specific and not intended to run on different caliber guns, and that doing so, would be considered experimentation and thus not covered under warranty.  He then further couldn't understand why someone would want to do this.

On top of that, they still don't know when the BE Meyers/surefire muzzle FH will be released, he said probably after December.

The information given to me by the rep, didn't seem right.  I'm not sure he knew what he was talking about, so I'll ask again.  Any surefire guys around here know?

If I were you I would spend my money with a company with better CS and a better, more durable product than SF.

Having never seen a 7.62 flash hider in person, I would assume no. I have the 5.56 K mount (flash hider version). Looking at the specifications of these mounts, the 7.62 version is longer and appears bigger than the 5.56.

Surefire is notorious for not releasing stuff. We're still waiting on the U2A and UB2 lights. The aluminum Titan came out 2 years-ish after it was in the catalogs.

The question is about Surefire mounts, not AAC.
