I have a DSA Para congo FAL that I just dropped off to get threaded.  The smith is highly recommended etc etc but he emailed me something today that has left me concerned.

Originally he was suppose to re-thread the barrel and attach a specific AAC flash suppressor on so I could mount my can.

Well he emailed me saying he cannot remove the barrel on my FAL and will just put a flash suppressor on the end of the barrel that is the same thread type as the current threads.  (basicly, he just unscrewed the factory flash suppressor and is going to screw another on that will allow a can).

After I read this I was left a little concerned.  I was under the assumption that new threads should be cut to guarantee the threads are concentric with the bore.  I would really hate to get a baffle strike or an end cap strike on a $900 can that I've only owned for a few days.

So tell me, am I on the right track or am I wrong.  I would call the guy and ask him but he never answers his phone.

Thanks in advance for the help.  Also, I am not trying to call out some gunsmith, I'm just wanting to make sure I don't screw up my brand new can that I waited 6 months to get approved on.

Only way to be sure is place a cleaning rod down the bore with the silencer attached to check bore center. Sometimes they are fine, sometimes not. Without the right tools the FAL barrel can be a but-kicker. Some smiths can chuck the entire upper in the lathe to thread. I wouldn't sweat it until you actually check the concentricty with the silencer.
