Im looking into a can for a 5.56 11.5" barrel M4. Is it worth the extra 1.25" rearward blast chamber with a coned blast baffle on a reflex silencer or should i just use a regular external straight baffle design? What is an optimum design? No subsonic ammo

you need to make sure that the reflex type can will mount on a 11.5 with a FSB. assuming thats what you have.

"home modified" means what exactly?  It sounds like you are planning ahead for something.  You gonna Form1 a suppressor?

Yes, do the reflex and allow the gasses to expand and blow back into the reflex portion to as to help alleviate pressure on the blast baffle.

Straight baffle design?  You mean versus reflex or are you asking about the actual baffles that you will make?  If it's the latter, you don't want straight as in "washer" like baffles.

Well, with a 11.5" barrel there is only 1.25" of barrel that the rear chamber can cover before the can hits the front sight post when screwed on. Does it matter how much volume is in the chamber surrounding the barrel or does it just matter how much volume the whole blast chamber is? As far as the "straight" baffles, i meant uniform design. Some that ive seen look kinda like    _     versus    _

are you building this on a Form 1, or transferring something on a Form 4 and modifying it? It helps us to know. If you're planning on not paying the $200 making or transfer tax, you aren't going to get a lot of help here.

I would say expressing intent (like, hey I'm looking into a form 1 silencer build....) would help.

The extra volume is small vs the weight as the barrel takes up most of the volume back there.  The idea is not extra suppression (its there but not much) but more of a reduced back pressure.  Go over the barrel if you want less back pressure.
