I have a Remmington 700 in the safe and am contemplating having it re barreled in an attempt to have a good, 20" 223. I also have an M4 2K in the safe which gets not much use. I wonder if a dedicated suppressed rig can be made up to support good repeatable and reliable accuracy with this proposed rig. I would like to be able to hit at 500yds using the Sierra 77gr. MK. Any input on this particular type of set up Including barrel length / twist? I have seen ballistic charts showing more barrel in 223 being optimal, I do not want too much length for this suppressed project. I also know the 223AI is better suited to shorter barrels but an advanced loader I am not, yet. 223 it will be at this point. |

I have a Savage 10FP in .223 that I had the barrel chopped to ~19" that I run with my M4-2000. No problem getting out to 500 yards with 55gr. V-max, 60gr. V-max, 73gr. Berger. Even with the barrel cut down and the suppressor the rifle shoots MOA all day long with most any load I feed it. I run my suppressed, 18" barreled AR-15's out to 600 yards regularly shooting 77gr. Sierra and Nosler bullets. With this setup, 600 yards is about the maximum distance I can go and still be consistent. |
The Savage is a 1/9 twist while the AR's are 1/7 twist. |
