| Someone told me that the Beretta 92 or M9 is better for suppression because it has a fixed barrel. Is that correct? What would the problem be on a non-fixed barrel? |
|
The M9/92 does NOT have a fixed barrel. It just moves less than a Browning-action pitsol barrel. The "advantage" is that fixed barrels do not require a Neilsen device (recoil booster) to cycle the weapon properly with a silencer attached. The Beretta, since it does move, still requires a Neilsen device for MAXIMUM reliability. However, since it only moves a little, you can usually get away with a boosterless can as long as it weighs less than 6-7oz or so. |

...or if it is slightly heavier then 6-7oz, you can use a lower rate recoil spring for shooting subsonics reliably. I have found that the only time my 92G, using a stock recoil spring, chokes is when I use loads like Special-K, and no booster. Shooting an SWR GSG9K3 with no booster and full power 115-124gr ammo, and the stock recoil spring, it will cycle 100%. Shooting the same setup but with Special-K, cuts my success rate to about 90%. Usually the method of failure is a stovepipe. |
Thanks SHIVAN....I'll certaintly try both ammo and mounts. BTW: I'm planning on shooting the crap out of this pistol so I decided this morning to keep my OEM barrel and get an additional threaded barrel... |
