| Can HP high volcity ammo be used saferly through a .22 supresor? |
|
Be very afraid of the 60 gr SSS from Aguilla with a suppressor. While some barrels will stabilize it adequately, the vast majority will result in excessive yaw or even tumbling. This will damage a suppressor, perhaps beyond repair. For this reason, few manufacturers will warrant their suppressors when this stuff is used. The least expensive, all around quality ammo that is subsonic in almost everything is CCI Standard Velocity available at most sporting goods stores. |

Shooting ammo that is supersonic out of a suppressor (in .22LR) is IMO a waste of time. It sounds to my ears like the suppressor isn't even there. Put another way, IMO the VAST majority of what you hear as the report of a .22LR is the sonic crack. If it is still there (because your ammo is supersonic), so is the VAST majority of the noise. Sure, the suppressor is removing some of the noise but IMO it is very little. Obviously, eliminating the sonic crack by using subsonic ammo greatly reduces the report and the suppressor brings that down to a tiny fraction of what you started with. Note that this is not the case with centerfire rifles. The suppressor removes the VAST majority of the noise and the sonic crack sounds just like the sonic crack out of a .22LR. ****This is just my opinion and observation. Not fact. |
