Just out of curiousity? Are all cans rebuildable? Are there any that can be rebuilt by the end user, or is that a "Gunsmithing Activity?" Can someone list the cans that can/can't be rebuilt?

Thanks!

I don't think any can is allowed to be rebuilt by the end user. This is an ATF thing I believe. However, many companies offer can rebuilds at discounted prices if the can ever needs it. For example, I think AAC will rebuild your can for half the price of a new one.

If you build your own on a form 1 you are not allowed to modify it in any way once it is completed.

the smith cans we used in the sandbox were rebuildable. so far in my limited suppressor experience, those have been the only ones i've seen.
unfortunatley, as i understand it, smith only sells to mil/leo.

Pretty much up to the manufacturer.  Pretty much any suppressor could theoretically be rebuilt.  If the tube needs replacing you have to pay a new transfer tax.

Cans with baffles can only be rebuilt by the mfg.

Cans with wipes can have the wipes replaced by the end user.

A rebuild isnt a modification,,its just a rebuild
I remember to have seen a letter telling that if the owner FIRST did cut the baffle(s) in no les than 3 pieces or melted them, then he /she could replace them

As long as it is not the registered tube that needs repairing, the B&T can be disassembled, cleaned and baffles rotated by the owner.  Bad baffel? Contact Larry at CCF.  There's some conditions that need to be met as to replacements but you can do it.  Larry probably can replace the tube too as you can upgrade to carbon fiber tubes.

Haven't heard of anyone needing to replace their baffles in this can tho...

OOppps looks like some things have changed.... http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=6&f=20&t=241896

Yes, you can repair it, however, you cannot change the length of the tube, caliber of the suppressor or replace the tube. Anything else can be replaced, however, if it was originally a .22 can, it must stay a .22 can.
However, that doesn't mean that you can't make the hole larger. You can do that if you're having problems with baffle strikes etc. In this manner you could likely change the caliber, but you can't just have extra baffles laying around to do that. Changing is a more permanent thing. You have to destroy the old baffles, and the suppressor will still be known as a .22 suppressor, you'll just be using it on other guns also.
